I'm glad I bought mine last year. This new dial is unimpressive, especially the markers on the sundials. Very bland compared the old dial.

I SO wanted the PN Daytona with the red second hand, but I do NOT want the new one with harder to read gold sundial hands and large chrono second hand.

Black polish hands on the sub dials will mostly look black. Legibility shouldn't be that bad.

I believe the hands are gold on the newman dial... not black polished.

They are black polished white gold or yellow gold depending on watch. Either way they will show black at most angles like the photo I posted.

I see that now.

Here’s a pic I found of it IRL.

Why would Rolex do this? So glad I got the black sub dial hands and red second hand. It's like when they got rid of the blue hands on the ymii. Good to have some discontinued models, but sad to see some go that u wanted.

My guess is Rolex wants to use similar hands across models save on manufacturing costs and streamline its production processes.

Actually, I agree. This is a huge deal. The new dial, for me, is no bueno.

Man, I wish I'd gotten my hands on the old one.

To each his own, I'm very glad I got my red hand one 2 weeks ago.

Here's a look at the 2 side by side, as I said before, I don't hate the new one, I just think it lost all of its personality.

Funny story, the guy who sold it to me literally just messaged me asking if he can buy it back for quite a bit more than I payed for ... I said no

I have to admit it tho, for as much as I like the old case and the uneven lugs, compared to the new one it does look like someone bit a chunk of gold off of the case and left it asymmetrical, it's like the apple logo

Prefer the new center hand but like the old sub dial hands. Either way great watch wouldn’t slow me down.

The new one looks more classy, while the old one looks more sporty. I like them both.

I don't understand why keep the red track if you change the chrono hand.

The changes ruin this reference. Should have just retired it

congrats! I bought mine (on oyster flex) last year. I'm so glad I did. And I agree, it's not that the new one is bad, but it's really missing the sporty edge and as others have mentioned, replacing the black sub dial hands is objectively stupid. The red hand is an aesthetic preference at least.

I might prefer the slimmer indices, but man, removing the red hand is like gutting the heart of this dial to me.

Agreed. Gold on gold - next to useless as far as legibility goes.

Also noticed on the 116508ln OF with champagne dial and black sub registers they removed the black around the indicies. That’s one of my favorite things about my watch. Pretty underwhelmed with the new Daytonas…

it's funny how each person can find the little things that really highlight a piece, or end up "ruining" a piece. I say this, because personally, the black surround on the indices of the previous generation was the ONE thing about that specific reference that i hated...i think it looks much better now. to each their own

That is funny, I tend to agree with you. I mentioned earlier, overall I like the slimmer indices and think removing the black surround in this case is an aesthetic improvement. Although for a watch that's received criticism for legibility anything the helps it pop off the dial is probably an advantage for functionality.

I'm not a fan of YG (or RG for that matter) but... the red second hand (and the minute markers on the dial) made that about the only YG Rolex I would spend my $ on...

I have a 116508 with this dial (JPS or Newman). I love it. The red second hand is a nice accent and the black hands on the sub-dials will make it easier to read them.

I feel like I am leaning towards liking the changes to the SS Daytona but not so much for the OF and some of the full PM versions.

It is not a “Newman” watch or dial...
