Most desirable of all the precious metal Rolex Chronographs
especially with this dial. If the price is not crazy buy it.

I think it's a great looking watch but I'd never buy it if I didn't intend to wear and enjoy it. I'm not buying anything to play the game.

It’s a modern day 6265 in white gold for less money that I would buy and enjoy…

I think this is an example of the disconnect between the watch customers and the staff at the AD.

You're looking at it as something you'd need to buy to get what you want, and they're feeling they've given you a unique opportunity to own a really hot watch, which is not available at MSRP on the secondary market.

So...who's right? Well, it doesn't really matter. The only thing that does is if you like it or not.

Me? I'd take it in a heartbeat. You?

I would love the white gold Daytona.

But even more, I would love to be in a position where I could afford to buy a white gold Daytona just to improve my chances of getting a SS Daytona.

Recently my husband had the blue dial version come in that he had waited 2.5 years to come in. The AD said that was the only one that had come in in that time. He was happy it had the 4130 movement inside. One of the best made. Not having faith in Rolex new movements. The price they resell for is a plus. I would buy it if you can swing it.

So it comes down to I like the look of the SS more than the WG AND we are talking a significant price increase. Having white gold does sound appealing but I genuinely like the look of steel better. I do however like the unique factor of the gold but I don't know about almost 3 x the steel.

Again, I would be buying this for the purchase history. I have purchased 2 pieces so far (sub and date just) and would love the opportunity to purchase some pieces I really want - blue dial sky dweller, sprite GMT, olive Green Day date. I just feel like at this point you probably need to buy a piece like this to be considered for the other pieces even with purchasing slowing down.

Be honest with your AD and ask them if buying the WG will help you obtain the SS Daytona you really want, even if you were to sell the WG piece.

My spend was too low for a SS Daytona and so I offered to help a family member buy a PM piece. My AD knew that the PM watch wasn’t for me (because I told them) and said what I chose to do with a watch once purchased was my business. Just a couple of months later I had my SS Daytona.

That's like having to buy a 911 Turbo S first when all you want is the basic Carrera. Makes no sense. Hard pass.

OP ... I bought a WG Daytona OF 116519 in Dec 2019 from an AD in a city to which I frequently travel. They are a big chain, and I thought after getting that watch, I'd be able to get most any watch I wanted from them and one of their west coast boutiques near me. That didn't happen. As a matter of fact, they never seemed to acknowledge me buying a PM piece at all. Luckily, the PM OF is something you won't lose money on, and as timing would have it (purchase was made Dec 2019 ... right before a major worldwide event happened), I got a bit freaked out by "what if" and sold it for just a touch under what I paid with tax ... to a great TRF member as a matter of fact. In the end, what did it get me? Nothing. As a matter of fact, about nine months after buying the Daytona, right when travel restarted again for vital government business, I contacted the AD and mentioned wanting a SS Daytona. Their answer was, "I don't want you to get unrealistic expectations. You are never going to get a SS Daytona from us."

Luckily I got them elsewhere through long term relationships. I never bought anything I didn't want (including the 116519, which I wish I had kept) and eventually got every watch I really wanted or could afford (and perhaps a bit beyond that last metric).

I hope you get the call for a SS Daytona soon, but don't think a full WG Daytona is going to make anything happen for you other than getting a beautiful watch for around $45-46k after tax.

Are we talking 997 turbo with 6mt? If so, it makes sense :)

This actually made me sad. I can’t believe they said that to you.

My rep told me “this will definitely help build your purchase history”

Whatever that means lol

It is one of my favorite watches to wear. But I was looking for wg Daytona. I wouldn't drop that money if I weren't sure I wanted it.

I know there’s other references that get more love, but I think this version could be the sleeper of the entire Daytona line-up. (If that can be said of a Daytona….)

One that should be seen in person.

It’s a buy from me!

It's a beautiful piece. Wear it in good health. IMO, PM > SS anyways

That watch is way better than a steel Daytona. If you have the money for it, I’d go for it.

If you are worried about values then pass on it.

I would not even considering to buy a watch only to kiss up to an AD.

The choice you are offered is so much more nice than any SS I would jump on it, but if you don’t love it than don’t
