How come Rolex can do Blue-Green-Grey with Black but need a special patent for Red?

+1 here for modern GMTs (still like 16710 Pepsi)…also feels like a decent candidate to be discontinued. Hard to see the Pepsi going anywhere even with manufacturing challenge rumors swirling. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The Coke is likely to come out in a new case similar to the sub41 with narrower lug profiles, and all other gmt models are gonna get that new streamlined case soon.

I am also interested to find our more about it. I reached out to Niccoloy to help us with a link to the document. Here it is, it is an interesting read: https://worldwide.espacenet.com/pate...%3DEP4311820A1 there is a clear reference in the "Description" to red-black bezel: [0006] More specifically, a first object of the present invention is to propose a solution for manufacturing a ceramic component that makes it possible to obtain a ceramic whose colour is controlled, notably making it possible to obtain a multicoloured, notably two-tone, notably red and black result. From a quick browsing I gathered that in addition to obtaining the colour combination, the "challenge" is to obtain a monobloc bezel despite having 2 colours. (is the Pepsi bezel made by adding the 2 pieces together?. it seems like they are focused on this aspect too. The at least two portions of different colours of the component are in monobloc form, made of a one-piece part. In other words, there is no fragile interface or border between these two portions, as would be the case if the two colours were obtained by elements manufactured at least in part separately and assembled subsequently; In addition, the process makes it possible to obtain a sharp border between the zones of different colours. Edit: The link displays the French version but it can be changed to English.

Great, hope it's released with an updated case that looks more refined like the yachtmaster or daytona.

I’ll bet demand for Pepsi dies down as everybody trips over themselves to have the “next big thing”.

Ok, who’s to say this black/red isn’t simply the new disc to be used with the blue layer in blro? Blue over the black half with red left bare.

Right. One portion is red and another portion is black. If the disc has a cut away in the black portion’s half the semi blue disc joins to complete the blro.
Your assumption is that the red/black disc is uniform in thickness. |

@bakelite
I don’t claim to know 100% but this is what it looks to me. Feel free to read the patent document and share your opinion.

That's why the Pepsi isn't vibrant blue and vibrant red. The blue is added to an all red mix. PS - Rolex has a whole brochure on it https://newsroom-content.rolex.com/-...ic_english.pdf

If you go to this page, https://worldwide.espacenet.com/pate...%3DEP4311820A1 Which is what patent is being claimed, translate it to English, it references green (not red) Which woud tie in with the Green/Black bezel VTNR 1. Process for manufacturing a ceramic watch component, characterized in that it comprises the following steps: - Manufacture an intermediate component (E1) in the form of a green body based on ceriated zirconia, - Debind (E2) totally or partially the intermediate component to obtain a debinded intermediate component; - Impregnate (E3) locally the debinded intermediate component with at least one solution comprising at least one metal salt, from only part of its surface, to obtain an impregnated debinded intermediate component; - Sinter and heat treat (E4) the debinded intermediate component impregnated by at least one heat treatment step under a reducing atmosphere (E42; E41'). The claims tree tab does indicate red/black as you have posted, however, which may be an update. Perhaps a European patent expert could comment?

https://worldwide.espacenet.com/pate...%3DEP4311820A1 Green/black. The date (2022) makes sense too The red/black may be an addition as at the publication date of Jan 24, but the original 2022 application was for geen/black

On the first release the colors were so light they were pastel pink and purple. Over the years, the colors have vastly improved.
