Takes 2 for a scam: the scammer and a buyer who doesn’t care enough to be super careful or is trying to chase the nonexistent ‘good deal’.

Sure, let's buy only from a few sellers and give them an effective monopoly.

Why bother to collect fees from other sellers to allow them to sell here, if we're going to advise everyone to not buy from them.

Good luck OP. The IC3 isn't a bad place to file a report but rare that you will get any action through them. Keep pushing your local police and the police local to where the wire landed. Consider hiring a private detective to pay any names you have unearthed a visit. If you can get neighbors to give you any information that's not such a crazy way to investigate either.

If the criminals feel like you're closing in on them they might return the money. By the time law enforcement does anything the money might already be spent and even if someone is arrested at that point, that won't benefit you.

Coordinating with other victims is also an excellent idea. The more victims reporting, the more chance law enforcement will take action.

Members shouldn't buy from anyone without trust. It just so happens that a limited number of TRF sellers are well enough trusted to wire money without escrow services.

And to avoid hijacks like the one we're reading about, 2FA ought to be a requirement for any seller. Just my humble opinion

I hate to say this, but after being on this forum since 2007 incident free, I too got scammed last month for the first time ever. I cannot and will not buy watches on forums anymore, maybe anywhere for that matter. I can't trust these sources anymore.

Seller? And I’m going to guess it wasn’t a TRF boutique

Yep seller. Had been on this forum for 3 years, hundreds of posts and references that checked out, but turned out to be fake references and a total scam.

I hear you my friend. I'm done, as I said earlier I will be satisfied with my current collection and keep pushing.

I never say "never".

I believe none of the boutiques sellers would intentionally scam anyone.

But one day, sometime in the future, some artful dodger will scam someone somehow by posing as, or compromising, the legit boutique seller.

Maybe using a tactic with a fairly new incautious member.

Maybe you could just buy from non-trusted sellers, get scammed every now and then, and still wind up ahead versus what the TRF boutiques are asking.

And the AD prices for Rolexes in history have varied...sometimes higher sometimes lower than gray.

All true! lol. but we’re just talking about getting scammed — I just buy from indisputably reputable people and it costs more but i can sleep at night!

Peace of mind is definitely worth something. I have been scammed twice - once as buyer (got all the money back, but it took a little time and effort to track down and intimidate the scammer into refunding me) - once as seller (that robber will end up arrested probably by his own doing, eventually).

However, I get too good to be true (but ARE true) deals regularly that if I stuck to this advice of buying only from the ones with inflated prices I'd never see.

Sounds like you got the scam issue basically solved! For me, I’m good comfortable with overpaying for safety. I value peace of mind over money and have low risk tolerance
