The jubilee bracelet has grown on me. I previously told AD's not to call me with one but now I wouldn't mind it.
I'd want to keep the exact serial my family gifted me--bracelets are relatively easy to source. Enjoy the watch now and look for an oyster bracelet that fits in the meantime. |

Thanks for all the feedback. I actually didn't know it was as easy as buying a new bracelet, which I can arrange and install. For some reason I incorrectly thought the actual case of the GMTII/VTNR jubilee and the GMTII/VTNR were different, e.g. the jubilee "architecture" and oyster "architecture" were part of the case. So that if you put an oyster bracelet onto a VTNR jubilee case, you'd see ~1 jubilee link or so and then the oyster. Make sense? Not sure how I got that wrong.
But if the cases are identical then I can enjoy the jubilee for a time and replace the bracelet at will with what I want. I actually don't care for the PCLs, anyone know if a Sub 97200 bracelet will properly fit GMTII/VTNR? |

With Jubilee being the more popular option, you’ll have no problem finding someone to swap bracelets with if you don’t come to love the jubilee. I would bite your tongue and never suggest anything but total appreciation for the magnificent gift. If I gave my kid a Rolex for him to bitch about the bracelet, I swear I would feed it to him.

There are several great ideas here, accept the gift as is, KEEP THE JUBILEE as its a gift, and buy an oyster for the $2500 or so the charge - win win - you get the watch you want for the cost of an oyster bracelet and you honor your stepfathers gift as given, leave the jubilee in the box for daily and slap it on when you get together with your stepfather/dressier occasions - win- win. Honestly, a lot of people would love to have the option of the other bracelet when they wanted to dress up or down the watch but adding another bracelet to an already big expenditure is not something most people will do, youre not paying for the watch so....

If OP’s post had been the following, I would have agreed with you: “Dear fellow Rolex (rich) enthusiasts. I have a problem. My father in-law gifted me six solid gold Rolexes. This upset me!! Everyone knows there are seven days in the week. Wearing the same watch twice in a week is for commoners. I’m now wondering if his daughter is in my league (probably not). What should I do?” |

You can go to RSC and ask them to get you an oyster bracelet as replacement.

I’m just going to go against the tide a bit, if I was the gift giver, I wouldn’t care if they switched out the bracelet. At all.
Personally, I don’t like the Jubilee. I know everyone here does, but I just don’t like it in my wrist. I don’t like how it looks and how it feels. I’d appreciate the gift immensely, but if this were me, I’d wear it a lot less. And I’m sure whoever bought it for me would want me to wear it a lot. I just don’t think of changing the bracelet as a big deal. Non watch people would literally think nothing of it. Hell, I’d argue most people on TRF would think nothing of getting a watch as a gift and throwing it on a NATO or a leather strap. So if OP knows he won’t wear the watch as much on a Jubilee, it makes zero sense to keep it on one. He knows himself and he knows his father-in-law much better than us. |

Interesting situation.
Easy answer. You know what to do. Enjoy wearing it and be grateful.

Some people are clearly hard to please and don’t deserve such generosity.I can only imagine how good it must feel for someone to gift you a great watch even if it isn’t quite what you wanted. As most have mentioned why can’t you just switch out the bracelet?

nice gift, my stepmother just cleaned out my father's accounts after he died and cried about poverty (hard to believe with 7 homes and substantial investments). It sounds like you hit the jackpot for the watch and a step-parent who actually cares about you.

So generous of your step-father!
Congratulations on the new acquisition! If you’ve seen a recent post of mine, I’m looking for a Jubilee bracelet. I’ll buy it from you, leaving you without a bracelet - 126710s make good pocket watches, right? |

Boy, it's a good thing he didn't mistakenly buy you a DayDate, then you'd really be screwed.
But seriously, I'm with the hive: I'd never sell or trade out the watch head, but the bracelet is another story. It's easy to say "just buy an Oyster" and have both, but it is a $2000- $3000 cost, so reach out to one of the Trusted Sellers on the site and they might be able to help you out with a swap. I think the Jubilee is generally considered a more desirable bracelet, so I don't think you'll have any trouble. In fact, I'd be surprised if you didn't already have a PM or two. BTW, I think the watch on Jubilee is sharp looking, but on Oyster is just meh.

Your FIL went out of his way to do a very kind and generous gesture for you, wear the watch and every time you see it on your wrist it will remind you have a wonderful family that cares for you.
Oyster v. Jubilee is not a big deal. Wear the jubilee. It’s actually the better bracelet for a modern GMT anyway. The only other reasonable thing to do is buy an oyster bracelet and switch back and forth. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I have an order into my AD for an Oyster bracelet for my GMT. It should be as simple as that! It has been a month! Crazy that you have to wait.

I'd just look for an Oyster bracelet. You never know, you might want to switch up down the road.

Take the watch as gifted. Wear it and be gracious. If you want another bracelet then order one and buy it.
