Not necessarily matching, but I do pay attention to how a watch fits into my overall style when I'm making a purchasing decision.

5 of my 6 watches have black dials so I don’t typically worry about it.

But, if I’m rotating to something else I may choose based on what I’m wearing that day like if there’s any red I’ll wear my black BB58.

My only watch with more color is the blue BB58 which I will purposely wear to University of Michigan events as I got it to celebrate my graduation from there. But I don’t ONLY wear it for that. My daughter borrowed it on July 4 and put it on a red/white/blue nato for fun.

Otherwise, mostly situational or depending on what kind of weight or fit I’m tolerating that day (because I have MD).

Do you actually match your watch to what you are wearing?

If your watch has color, I think it’s fine to wear something that compliments that color, but please, do not only wear a Sub LV with a green shirt. That is ridiculous.

And I think the Sub LV pairs best with navy or grey.

Just please don’t be matchy-matchy. You will look like a 4 year old whose Mommy dressed them in the morning.

I specifically DO try to match my watch with what I am wearing on any given day. Obviously SS/Black dial goes with anything. I do tend to wear lots of red/blue which almost demands the 17610 Pepsi. My 1601 Datejusts can almost go anywhere because they are two tone - one has a white dial, the other is a champagne linen dial, so relatively neutral when it comes to other colors.

The other thing is that if you look at G-Shocks, they are available in almost any color and any style. I have probably 10 of those in various configurations. Red shirt = Red G-Shock for example. I do use my watches as functional accessories in my wardrobe and will sometimes pick my watch and then pick my clothes to go with it.

Just my .02

I think it's obvious from the answers that anybody can wear a "neutral" looking watch with just about anything. So a standard black/white dial+bezel version fits perfectly for any dress code.

That's why I don't think that's exactly what the OP asked about.

So I think that if someone has several different colored dial/strap watches in their collection and not just black/silver/white, then a collector will choose the one that suits their look the best. It follows from this that I think it is not the watch or the clothes that define dressing, but the intention to look good. And this allows you to choose the mst suitable clothes AND watch.

No, can't say that I really match my watch to what I'm wearing, but I do tend to wear my BLNR if I have a blue shirt on, but then again, I also tend to wear my BLNR most of the time, haha

My days of having to think about which watch with my suit and tie are all but over, just family weddings and the like to consider occasionally.

Being retired I just wear whatever shouts at me from the watch box, having said that I don't tend to change watches on a daily basis more by rotation every couple of weeks.

Yes.

I also match my shoes and my purse to what I’m wearing.

It’s not a “worry,” it’s just coordinating a whole outfit (being “put together,” if you will), whether I’m wearing a suit to work or going casual on the weekend.

It bothers me when my watch doesn’t match, that is why I love my BLNR is pretty much goes with everything.

Watches with bracelets seem to match almost anything. I will argue that when wearing watches with straps, one should match them like belts and shoes. Or I at least make an effort. I'm a bit ocd though!

I have never matched my watch to what I'm wearing but I have matched my watch to the holiday that I'm celebrating. or to the event that I'm attending or even to the college such as orange and black is a color for a local college and I've got a milgauss in Orange with a black dial in Orange lightning bolt second hand vice versa for other colleges and other events match the watch to the event yes match the watch to my clothing no.

lol not at all - probably one of the most definitive signs of an actual watch enthusiast as opposed to someone "into" watches for fashion.

Go BLUE!! Will also fit right in with Detroit Lions gear!

PS - I have a few watch options so I try not to clash.

Most of the time yes, tho also have a collection of straps so that greatly expands the possibilities.

PS: Though yes, some timepieces are strap monsters, others a bit more limiting in diversity.

PPS: It may be, at times, a fashion thing, though also i may choose a timepiece first and work with that.

PPPS: There's, literally, no dress code here 'at work'. Brown dials / strap work well with my dark summer tan. :)
