Guilty About Watch Spending?

Today I learned that a BLNR, Daytona, and Cermit are a "modest" collection

Just kidding, of course.

I don't feel guilty. I want to spend money on things that I like. Whether that is vehicles, foods, experiences, or watches. Watches are fun. And while I don't consider any watch an investment, it's also nice that value doesn't plummet immediately like a used vehicle, and they're not a one-and-done purchase like food or vacations.

It is far from being the worst use of my money… so nope.

However i am aware that many will not understand the passion and the fact that it is not really throwing money out of the window…
I am not sure how to best handle that tbh…

That said, no I don't feel guilty after buying the watch, the guilt comes in when decided on whether or not to spend the money on the watch vs invest it.....like this that just arrived from Aamir.

Every time now, but I have never missed the money once it is transferred and I don't have to think about it anymore. For some reason any large purchase does that to me now. I recently sold 2 watches and bought 1, had several thousand left over, and still felt guilty when I had to pay for it.

Yes. There are only 2 things you can do.

1. Make more irresponsible friends.

2. Make more money so the amount you’re spending is just a minute percentage of your income. Like the Ambanis. Every single Richard Mille is cheaper to him than a g shock to me.

My recommendation is to walk into a Richard Mille boutique. You’ll feel less guilty.

That said. Having passing thoughts of your situation compared to most in the world is good. So many stars need be aligned for most of us to enjoy the luxury of premium watches and recognizing that is healthy.

If your watch purchase ever takes you away from promoting causes greater than self, then check yourself. If not, enjoy and recognize your accomplishments.

Actually, sometimes I do have a wave of guilt come over me, but once I put that newly purchased watch back on my wrist, it quickly vanishes!

not really-as long as i can purchase them comfortably and still fulfill my other financial obligations and provide for my family it's been a good hobby. are they a necessity? no.
if for some reason we came upon hard financial times i would part with as many as i need to keep things afloat.

It actually just struck me the other day that I am spending 5 figures on a watch and there are millions of people going hungry in the world. Discomforting.

I routinely flagellate myself in order to assuage my guilt. Other than that, it's not really worse than having money in the bank.

Definitely. I always feel guilty when I spend money on something that is not a necessity (food, clothing, shelter) and that benefits only me. For example, I spend about $25,000 per year on fine wine; I don't feel guilty about that, because I share the wine with family and friends. Meanwhile, my most expensive watch cost $900, I felt guilty buying it, and I have refrained from buying other watches because they are not necessities and they would benefit only me. Plus, I really like my watch.

Perhaps it’s because of my age, 65, having recently lost a kidney and facing a borderline functioning remaining but I am not regretting a single dime I spend if it brings me joy. My goal is to die broke, just not live poor.

Zero guilt. It’s something I buy to feel good, and reward myself.

The only time I felt guilty was when I was behind a father and his two children in a store and the daughter asked for some item (like $10 or less). The father said no because if they bought that they wouldn’t be able to afford the food for dinner.

I felt about 2’ tall and contemplated if buying an expensive watch was the best use of my money.

It all depends on individual, It's a hobby you choose, If you can acquire them without exacting much burden in your finances, then it's a good one.

I think this is appropriate.

I wouldn’t say I feel guilty but I try hard to be grateful for what I have.
