No, I dont fit.
I am in the medical field and wear "SCRUBS" and a lab coat, and I interact with all walks of life. Movie stars, Sports stars, musicians, artists, anarchists, beach bumbs, bumbs, drug addicts that are rich and druggies that are poor, they all have a heart and when they mess it up they wind up in my lab! When I see a medical person wearing a fine timepiece it to me says, "yup, its (time) precious and where's my next patient?" Randy |

I would have to say that I neither "fit into their niche market" nor would I ever consider myself a "target market group" and definitely not an "image" for any Rolex ad I've ever seen.

I don't consider myself to be one of the "beautiful" people. I live a nice life and work hard and purchasing a Rolex is a luxury that I afford in my income bracket. Today, being successful is having a job, holding the job and paying your bills.
Rolex doesn't care if I meet or beat their "expected class" of customer as long as I can buy it and pay for it. Rolex has a name. They have it due to a history of good product reliability, innovation and advertising to back that up and keep the name out in front of the masses. I wonder how much less expensive each watch could be if they cut down on the ads?? Truly, they are not what influenced my to want a Rolex. To me, the word Rolex and watch are synonymous. |

I detest anything flashy that screams "look at me." Which is why I wear my SS Airking most of the time. Don't get to wear nice watches to work (Police Officer) too often but I do wear suits and ties to Masonic meetings and a Tux about 12 times a year. Other than my house I have no debt, pay cash for my toys. Nice middle priced home but in a VERY nice suburb. Have alot of nice toys, but more importantly alot of nice friends.

I am a fairly simple person. Old Navy dressing, roll out of bed and walk next door to work, love to camp, hike, fish, target shoot, ride hard on my dirtbike on the weekends, and try to find anything interesting to fill my time and keep my mind from wandering since I quit drinking type of guy. I have no idea what status that fits into but it is me nonetheless.

Great thread
I'm a policeman. I don't wear my watch at work, (I work with trucks all day) The reason I like Rolex so much is that they make a great product that does what it says it will do. That, and I think they are incredibly good looking timepieces. I think that if you didn't know any watch brands at all, and you saw a bunch of watches either on someone's wrist, or from a small distance, a Rolex would ALWAYS stand out. It's a very unique and striking watch. Also Rolex has a history, and for me that's important. They don't skimp on materials, they don't outsource to a third world country, and they stand by what they make. That's important to me. I'll give my watch to my kids one day. How many things can you say that about?

Definitely not. I'm a t-shirt and jeans kind of guy. Security follows me around when I go in a new Rolex AD...
Of course, that could be due to my age. |

Recently when I was in India and was having dinner at a freinds house and he was flaunting his new watch and I told him he could have had a nice rolex for the money he spend on tha no name no history watch. Another frind of mine responded snobbishly "these days even fish mongers have rolex". I shared this story just to tell that Rolex cannot be fit into one particular class. At least for most people the first rolex gives a sense of accomplishment. Then onwards it is a passiona nd then an addiction. I feel at time we should have Rolex Anonymous to help Rolex addicts

Not me at all. I'm just your typical 20-something bachelor with my average car and tiny unkempt apartment.

I'm not sure there really is a Rolex "image." That being said, the least expensive Rolex still requires more disposable income than most folks spend on a watch. So, I think there has to be an appreciation for the workmanship, design and history of the Rolex watch for an individual to really enjoy owning one. And I suppose that person definitely fits the Rolex image!

I would hope that the only thing people need to have in common to be in the "rolex crowd" would be a appreciation for fine timepieces, but maybe i'm wrong!!

As for me personally, I'm not all that "image" conscious, nor did I fall for any sort of target marketing. My work wardrobe consists of cargo pants, boots, and collared shirts or mock turtlenecks with a light wind vest. My weekend wardrobe swaps the pants for shorts and flip flops mostly, and generally I'll be wearing a hat of some sort. I drive a "modified" Toyota 4x4, like and keep a small collection of firearms, love getting lost in the middle of nowhere (and staying there for days at a time!), shoot pretty pictures, and appreciate craft beers and great Pinot alike. I don't aspire to be famous or powerful, but I'll do just about anything to ensure my family is comfortable and my kid recognizes, and has the opportunities I may have forgone or took for granted myself growing up. I doubt I'm who the OP meant by "target market." :D In fact, I think the traditional definition of who or what makes a Rolex owner is largely overblown, based on my personal experience with people. |

Hmm – my cheapest Rolex is more worth than my car, so I guess not
............ On the other hand – I’m good looking and extremely arrogant, so maybe anyways Seriously; The typical Rolex buyer/wearer would never find a WIS site like this, so if you read this – You don’t fit into the Rolex crowd!! BR Jesper |

I think the image thing sees two different ideals. The successful person with sophistication at the opera or the adventurous diving in the sea.
I can say that in my life "been there done that" |
