Can you imagine if Messi scores, puts Argentina at #2, and then Iceland scores, wins, and steals the spot? I predicted some weirdness at the end of the Iceland match. Let's see.

Great game. Actually it could have gone either way. Messi finally wakes up. Glad to see the top 2 players in the world still in the competition.

The sports press was too pre-mature on writing Messi and Argentina's worldcup obituary.

This was a good match - now we get more serious in the Round of 16.

Something about packing each day before the game puts perspective on each match.

Well done to Messi and Argentina, he scored a superb goal and that great save from his free kick kept Nigeria in the game, as did Higuain who missed two easy chances, Aguero is so much a better player and Argentina have very few decent ones.

France looked poor today, as did Argentina, but they both can't lose! So the theme of underdogs playing better than expected and the fancied teams worse is continuing, but the bigger teams are scraping the results.

Indeed. Both of the Group E versus Group F matches will also be very entertaining.

Did you guys not see Maradona flick off Nigerian fans and scream ‘pun**’ at them on the second goal? legend

Saw that - they got away from that shot here on Fox very quickly. Can’t really understand the point of that unless he was getting harassed earlier.

I’m assuming just Maradona being Maradona of course

Yes I did. It would be nice to see the team speak out and distance themselves from him.

Well it seems karma is a bit** because he apparently was rushed to the hospital after the game. Probably a combination of celebrating and a little too much nose powder

Well I wish harm on no one, but the team should condemn him and distance them from him. That would be the right thing to do.

I think that is just Maradona being Maradona. Tremendous footballer, but equally controversial off the field haha

I think he coached them at the 2010 or 2014 WC. Maradona = Football in Argentina and vice-versa. Probably hard to do. Not that I condone his Maradonesque behavior haha

2010. He was a disaster for them. They beat Mexico in the round of 16 but lost badly to Germany in the quarters (4-0).

I think Germany, Costa Rica and Switzerland should get the wins today. Being an England fan I think it’s pretty obvious who I would like to loose though haha

Switzerland and Costa Rica play each other, so that one's going to be a little difficult.

Switzerland over Costa Rica by two goals. Germany over Korea by two as well. Mexico wins by one goal and Brazil draws to take 2nd in the group.
