Thanks. I do really enjoy it. It’s my daily wearer and just seems to fit in any scenario very nicely.

It looks like my 1958 5500 although the 1530 versions usually had Super Precision printed on the lower half of the dial.

Cheers,
Rick

Went a little mountain walking on the weekend. Of course, my companion was with me!

Interesting. The above two AKs look nothing alike. The only commonality is the type face of Air King. Makes you wonder why the 116900 wasn’t called something else

I wonder how many pies a store has to sell for the owner to nab one of these or alternatively how many a good customer has to buy? ;)

So I have taken a shine to the older Air Kings in here. Specifically the blue dialed options. What does one need to know when looking at a 20yr old vintage piece? Provenance obviously (buy the seller not the watch) and possible service history. How does one actually verify any of that? Anything else I am missing?

Reputable dealer. It’s hard to have service history proven, unless the watch has all the previous invoices of service.

I love mine, the blue dial version is stunning. I looked at a black dial one over the weekend and it was a stunner, so smart, however I’ve got no need for another 14000 in a different dial colour!

I saw a few that were from US dealers. Is $3500 or so in the ball park for a late 90s piece? No original papers for most a few had a box.

Yes, I think approx ball park. Generally, the more expensive ones will be in better shape, history, papers box etc.

Flying under the radar with this new-to-me black non-Precision dial Ref. 5500 Air King. Circa 1983 (my birth year) and part of a full set

Looks to be a 14000 or more likely a 14000M. It doesn’t appear to have it’s original bracelet, the end links should be 557b and the bracelet code 78350. It seems the 114270 has been stamped on there at some point, and incidentally is the ref. number of the Rolex Explorer I.

Did you get any provenance with the watch?

Lovely watch that. Unusual to see a non-Precision dial in that production era, does full set include reference to production date?

Cheers,
Rick
