Hey Matt... that's a great looking AK you got there... wear it in good health

Hi Alex that 5701 is certainly a handsome and rather rare Air King. I believe I read here some time ago that it was primarily a Canada market issue, does your research bear that out?

Cheers,
Rick

Sorry Rick, I only noticed this message now...

So yeah, these Air-King-Date (AKD) models (specifically the two-tone) 5701 are well known for being for the Canadian market only.

That said, I believe that the AKD 5700 was made/sold in the commonwealth countries like Canada and the UK.

Furthermore, I believe that while Canada received the AKD, the US received the 5700n Explorer Date.

Think you would love it - considering you have the milgauss. Maybe another addition for you!

Such a fantastic watch. I love my blue 369. How come it needed a new dial?
Is yours the 14000 or 14000M?

It's a 14000 and the dial was not changed it was the bracelet that was changed

I want to show you my 3 watches from the Air King family. All 34mm oister cases.

First is my dads 5500 “super precision”, he had it on an aftermarket band, I was able to source a correct one from 1971. I think is a decade younger.

Next is a Tudor with 2483 movement. All original , same bracelet as the Rolex air king just newer and with Tudor stamp.

And last a Tudor prince date, with aftermarket hands (for now). I keep this one on a BOR bracelet.

All together. The Rolex Air King wears larger than the Tudor, I think the dial makes the difference.

Could use your all’s help!

Does anyone know if the 14000 ever had the 369 without the “Air King” inscription on the dial face?

Had recently purchased this circa 1996 AK from eBay and was authenticated as a 14000, but all I’ve always seen the AK name for this ref. This almost looks like the newer 114200 but my bracelet is the older 78350 which makes sense for 14000.

Can anyone add more insight? Is this particular 14000 without the “Air King” a rare model? Or did eBay misjudge? (I can return and get my money back)

Although I had not seen that dial on a Ref 14000 you could look at the Oyster Perpetual Owners club for similar examples.

Here's my guess: Someone took a dial from a 14203 (34mm OP TT), changed the hands and hour markers from YG to WG, and stuck it in that 14000.

But, to my knowledge, that dial didn't come from a 14000 because, not only was the 14000 always branded "Air King" but it was never COSC-certified. The AK always said "Precision" instead. The 14203, however, was a chronometer.

Here's another example of someone swapping in a later dial, from a 114200, into an old 14000:

https://www.chrono24.com/rolex/air-k...id21432963.htm

However, that's unlikely the case with yours, as the dial is period-correct for the mid-90s. You can tell from the "T" on either side of "Swiss Made" at the bottom (indicating tritium lume, which was still used).

My advice would be to find someone locally who can authenticate for you, to make sure that the rest of the watch, and what's inside it, is real. Either way, I think at least some partial refund is due since the watch isn't all-original. If you keep it, you could always try to source the right dial, but no silver 3-6-9 for that model. Only ones with that configuration were blue and salmon, I think.
Hope this yelps.

Funny enough, that's my photo of my watch that appears in your posted link to the OP thread. I just love the blue dial. The afternoon sunlight was coming through the window just right when I took that pic and the dial really popped.
