Murphy graduated from puppy class tonight.
He can now "Sit", "Come", "Down", "Stay", "Leave it" and "Give" if he feels like it or if I am holding out a treat. We're making progress though.

Bumped for Paul, who's dog is fighting for his life.
This thread helped me last year when my dog passed. Maybe it will bring him comfort too.

Sorry to hear that Bill. My boxer did something similar. Thyroid cancer. One day he was fine the next two day's was the shakes. I had to put him down. I was in that office when they did. I always said, we had a good run. Again, sorry to hear that.

Bill-sorry about your loss. I lost my 15 years old Tyson and Annie both within 6 weeks of eachother. Once Tyson went-Annie who was so healthy all of a sudden went-out of nowhere. We had many great years with them--and will always carry them in our hearts. Now we have 2 little Frenchies who have stolen our hearts--Henry and Sammy.

Nice to have this thread resurrected. My dog (Cesar), tho small, is as bright and as loyal as any dog I've ever seen. He has never lied to me. Here he is with the person he feels the greatest need to protect (as they are both NU fans, and this picture was taken on Halloween, he went as a Wildcat):

Great thread!
My 16 years old dog had cancer and passed away last year. I don't know if I will ever have another dog again. It hurt too much. |

This is our dog Beauty. My wife and I decided to get a dog first and it it survived, we were safe for kids. We now have two kids.
Beauty is also a two time cancer survivor. At the age of five she had a tumor removed from a leg and went on to Chemo. A year of so later she was fully recovered. A few years later she had another cancerous growth on her head. They cut it out and managed to get it all and didn't need any chemo. She has been a great dog. During the chemo she had weekly visits to the vet to get blood tests and sometimes chemo treatments. Since every time she went to the vet she got cookies from the staff, she would drag us into the vet office and go right to the spot they kept the cookies. She still looks great for a 14 year old Labrador. Her sight and hearing are going, but she still has all her teeth and eats well. There seems to be nothing wrong with her nose, as she can smell things from a long way away, especially if food is involved |

This is a touching thread, and it never ceases to amaze me how our pets work their way into our hearts. Bill, Murphy looks like a great guy and I'm glad he has a good home.

JBat, John, I have to agree with you about the Goldens. I had to put mine down several years ago at the young age of 10. What a great companion dog he was. Just a naturally happy breed. I was worried about the comparisons so I went with a different dog. He is a great companion too. Little more active and birdy than my Golden but a lovable personality. Goldens will always have a special place with me.

Sorry to hear about Bandit.
One of my parents dogs "Nikolai" met a very similar fate about 10 years ago. Diagnosed with stomach cancer and had to be put to sleep just a few days later. Never once did he complain! Dogs show a lot more character than us humans. RIP Bandit and Nikolai.

Bill so sorry for the loss of your beloved friend. This is Cindy(Red) & Snuggles(Green) both are Bichons. Snuggles was bought for my wife 8 years ago after my daughter Chrissy passed away at the age of 3. I never wanted a dog because I knew that they didn't live very long & when they pass it's heartbreaking. Snuggles is attached at the hip to my wife & will only acknowledge me when she isn't home, so I decided after 8 years that I wanted my own puppy. My wife & daughter Kimmie bought Cindy for me for my 50th birthday in October. I can't believe how much I love her...

Sorry for your loss.
Here's my boy. I just love him. He's a Golden Retriever. He's about 80 pounds. He's 2 1/2 now. He was about a year when the pic was taken (after a happy afternoon of digging up our yard--notice the dirty nose). -He likes to give hugs. -When I was sick last year, he climbed up on the sofa with me and held my hand between his paws. -He loves every living thing. -He is so quick to forgive. -He never barks except when he wants to wrestle. -When we come downstairs in our work clothes he runs and hides under the table. -Sometimes he tries to pack all three of his toys in his mouth. -Sometimes if I've got some food he wants, I hear the sound of him repeatedly standing and sitting, standing, and sitting, all the while moving closer in hopes that I'll notice his preemptive obedience. -He notices when we're wearing new clothes. |
