If you don't have the date complication, how do you know if your watch is set to a.m. or p.m.??

I cannot imagine ever regretting this watch. Once I get a 14060, it'll be mine forever.

I'm jonesing one as well John...but wondering if I should look for a 5513?
I know I could likely get a pre-loved 14060M for < $3,500...but 5513 could go up to $5,000... |

The 5513 would work for me! Maybe a bit harder to find, but worth the $5K, IMO.

I like the idea of the ND, especially the ease of strap change with the lug holes and the simplicity of the dial with the one word, "Submariner" and the depth rating - but the practicality of the date and the iconic cyclops meant that I went for a Sub date.
One final thing, for all of you who mentioned James Bond and "his" choice of watch, sorry to disillusion you but he's a fictional a character, doesn't exist and has no say it what watch he wears.

For 23 years, up until a few weeks ago, I always wore a DJ and relied on the date feature. However, for the past two weeks plus I have been wearing my new Omega Railmaster (no date). I must admit that for the first couple days I caught myself looking for the date and finding none. However, I love the clean and classic look. After the first week, I starting doing what I use to do when I was in my teens and wore a Timex . . . I started using my brain and remembering the date. I love the looks of the Sub no-date. Now, man-up and enjoy that little guy.

Its all down to personal choice. I think in this day and age no one really has to rely on their watch for the date.
I chose the ND but the Date comes a close second! |

I like the look of the watch...but have never wanted it. As for no date function...well I have the Daytona for that...but that didn't have the option and I love the watch.

I have never regretted getting mine. It was the first one I bought and it is still the one that gets most wrist-time.

It is unique, clean and refreshing for a diver watch like this. For one thing, most of the other watch manufacturers - if not all - have the date function on the watch. There is no option. Secondly, the 40mm size, I think, is ideal.
Thirdly, the screw holes on the lugs. Even if I was partial to having dates on my watches, I would get this one over the date version, just because it is such a unique classic. I saw one at my AD yesterday, for the first time. I had gone to look at an Explorer, which I will be getting. However, when I saw the Sub ND, I almost changed my mind and got that. In the pictures I saw, the markers were smaller than on the date version, and I didn't know if I would like it or not. However, seeing it in the flesh, I had no doubt in my mind that this is a very desirable watch. I don't even know if they still make it. If it were me, I would not have any second thoughts or regrets. You can always get a diver with the date later if you really want. I could rave about this watch all night. It is my favourite watch of this type with movable bezel - bar none. If it weren't for the fact that I am itching to get an Explorer, I would be getting the Sub that I saw yesterday. Cheers, Carl

I am getting an Explorer this week. I find that is a classic as well. Amazing how close the Railmaster looks to it, when you put on the steel bracelet! Regardless of their similarities, they are both unique in their own way. As I see it, I will now have an Explorer with a steel bracelet, and a kind of Explorer with leather. When I saw the Explorer yesterday, however, I was quite surprised at how shiny the dial, numbers and markers look. It really looks wonderful, and actually does give a totally different look than the Railmaster, from what you see in the photos. Enjoy that Railmaster! Cheers , Carl

This is just an excuse to buy another Rolex that has a date feature that will be your "formal" watch.

Yes. Sold it within a week. I could not stand the non-SEL link and floppy divers clasp. Glad I kept my Sub Date.

I go through this occassionally. I like having the date on my watches. I even had my Sub regulated and pressure tested specifically so I could sell it! But it's such a work of art, it's hard to let go. And when I don't wear it for a day or two, I can't wait to get it back on.

I did.. I subsequently flipped it for an SD.
My remorse stemmed from the fact that it was my first Rolex and it was a cheap back then @ $2200 USD, however it also needed work. I thought I wouldn't miss the date, but I did. It all boils down to a person's preference, and it certainly drove me bonkers not seeing the date.

Arguably, without the date, the world's most beautiful and iconic watch.
I think if a person wants or needs the date function they should consider a GMT Master II. |
