Why Bother Buying a Rolex if...

My family has purchased some high end watches (1 lange & sohne, 2 baume & mercier and 2 Rollies!) and I guess I do have a love for watches.... but one of my close friends recently asked me a question and i didnt know how to respond.

He himself knows about all of the fake rolexs and how good the Fakes could be. So he asked me "What's the point in buying a real rolex if the fake ones work just as well?" I mean the fakes still have swiss movement in them and they're not BAD watches by any means. (If a dude's timex could last for 20 years, im sure a fake rollie still priced at 1000$ would last just as long!) That got me thinking... I didnt know how to respond to this question because I just love rolexs... and if someone showed me a fake rolex and i just glanced at it i probably wouldnt be able to tell the difference.

I would NEVER wear a fake rolex and try to pass it off as being real but for the most of us who arent watch experts, what difference would having a real as opposed to a fake one have? I guess it would be more of an internal problem rather than an external one....

what is your view on this? and how would you respond to a question like this?
