I never really babied my Rolex, It has been worn every day since i took it out of the box. I initially wore it cautiously however. Just being mindful not to knock it into walls and scrape it against things. I would take it off any time i was going to be doing abrasive work. After it got its first major ding though, i just stopped caring. I know the RSC will make it look new again so now its just worn and enjoyed regardless.

how many of you have had this progression?
Mine was a beater from day one.
The only place I don't take it is the gym. And when I wear my dress watch.

I've had mine for two years. Similar journey to yourself.....babying it, polishing it.........now I wear it swimming (a dive watch getting wet!), cooking, doing work in the garden etc.

This is pretty much the same journey for every new item I buy e.g. a car is a similar story.

No you're not (sigh). That is me whenever I wear one of my PCL pieces. When I wear my brushed 16610, not so much because it is my dedicated beater watch that I wear to the beach, doing yardwork, etc.

I totally identify with the OP; there's definitely a progression from care to carefree (more or less) for me. I also think one of the other posts nailed it on the head: these are not tool watches any more like so many like to claim. Those days are gone. Rolexes of today, yes even the SS versions, are luxury jewelry items by sheer virtue of their outrageous cost, marketing/branding, and use of precious metals throughout the lineup. Go figure why some people would be careful with a $7000 stainless steel watch! If $7000 was inconsequential to them, they would not care less about rapidly aging their Rolexes.

I truly appreciated my watch when it was mint. I have plenty of 'baby' pictures.

That said, I got my GMT IIc to wear every day and not to place in a curio with Swarovski sparkling crystals!!!

It's tough guys they grow up so fast.

I'm pampering myself wearing a rolex, not so much pampering the watch!

Now I don't want all of this tough talk to give you the wrong idea!

I am a gentle lover! :p

I'm mindful not to place them in situations where any heavy scratches may occur - but I don't 'baby' them.
