Who cares! Proof is in the puddin'

When I look at my Rolex watches they exude quality and exemplary fit and finish.

While I may not be on the AP or PP bandwagon (Yet) like other members here, as a collector of another type of item that cannot be mentioned here per the rules of equal or lesser value, I know quality when I see it.

If Rolex watches were produced in a nanosecond I'd be the first in line to understand how their operation works so that I may use their practices in my industry.

Needless, continuous , negative Rolex comments.....on a Rolex forum. Fair criticism.. yes of course. But this type of habitual posting becomes irritating and signals other motives.

Mass production and the use of robotics have made possible consistency and minute tolerances that could have never been accomplished by human hands alone.

There are some tasks that are better suited to machines and some that are better suited to human hands. Rolex seems to have mastered this balance quite well.

To anyone who owns a Rolex and understands what a work of mechanical art that it is, the statement above is ludicrous.

There are watches out there that are made one at at time and if you happen to have a fortune, you can probably hire yourself a world class watchmaker to make you a watch to your specifications.

Comparing a Rolex watch to a Microsoft CD is probably the most inane statement I've heard in quite a long time and lately, I've heard a few.

OK guys and gals, who cares about numbers and time. Rolex is a real world quality product and I have a few so I can atest to that. The newer ones can keep time to within +- one second per day and I have two that will do that. On top of that they will take the daily bumps and grinds of life. nuf said!

I love my Rolex's, I love the way they work, how they feel, how they make me feel, but I also understand manufacturing, I don't and never will think they are made by one person sitting at a small window with a shaft of light just falling perfectly onto his or her workbench showing the tools that have been used for years and passed down from their previous owners. Of course that doesn't mean that when I'm asleep these things don't happen in my dreams

Ok here's some more mind bending numbers, assuming Rolex makes a million watches per year and there are only 400 Century 21 certified watchmakers in the world that would be 2500 services per watchmaker per year for just what was made this year which is about 1500 more than I can reasonably do so I am going backwards at a rate of 1500 this year now add up all the years of production and you can see why we need more qualified watchmakers by 1000 that are in all the schools worldwide. In my opinion a service epidemic. Rikki
