Rolex knows what they are doing. They haven't survived lo these many decades by no having their fingers on the pulse of the worlds economy and the demand for their watches.

They haven't priced themselves out of the market. What they have done is to price me and a lot of others out of the market.

Of course, those who like the brand and don't follow it as we here do won't feel the sting quite as much and will develop a desire for a Rolex and of those the ones with the means will shell out the bucks, as buyers always have.

The well-heeled collectors will continue to add to their collections, just maybe a little less often.

Folks like myself will see the handwriting on the wall and feel fortunate that we happened along in a transitional phase that allowed us to get some watches that were being discontinued and were able to get them BNIB and are comfortable with what we have and be happy that there are other fish to fry.

For me it's been a hell of a ride.

The Sub C LN has been increased by 6.8%. So if we apply the same percentage to the old LV price of $8550, that results in a new price of $9138.

Glad I bought mine when I did!

I am kind of excited about the price increase. Last night, I thought I was going to have to buy an AP Diver to own a diver's watch in the $12K+ price range.

I wake up this morning and voila...my DSSD now costs over $12K. Problem solved.

Why even go that far, the SS Daytona was $9200 4 years ago. Now it's over $12k, for the same watch!!!
Nothing has changed, you just pay $4k more and walk away.

No doubt Rolex is a great brand of fine quality watches.
But there are other brands than Rolex.
The new Omega PO with the 8500 movement can be had for almost half the price of a DSSD not counting discounts where ADs discount Omegas more than Rolexes.
And the 8500 is one great movement

Or the PloProf can be had for a lot less than the DSSD.

The new price of the 116610 will be on par with IWC Ingenieur Mission Earth as an example

The SS Daytona is now not that far away from a Vacheron Constantin Overseas, and the VC is in a whole different league.

Rolex might lose it when the competition starts to get stiff. Breitling and Omega are already offering 4yrs of warranty for the in-house movements and Omega has a 2yr service warranty after the watch has seen a service while Rolex only offers 2yrs vs 1yr after service.
Both Omega you mentioned are great watches, but it's apples and oranges compared to the DSSD. The DSSD is engineered for much more depth than any the Omega.

List for the Overseas Chrono is $21,500. The Daytona is still far behind...

Rolex does give a 2 year warranty with service.

I think the new prices certainly make the 8500 PO look like a bargain in comparison. A great new in-house movement with a four year warranty for $6K.

I currently own the DSSD, but if it were $12K when I bought it, I think I would have passed. I would still pay $9200 for the LVC though! It is getting pretty insane, but from a business perspective it certainly makes sense to test the limits of what the market will bear.

It is true that Tudor prices have increased as well? If so any idea as to the new price of the Heritage Chrono and Fly-Back Chrono?

Only good part is that it raises the value of the watches we already own.

Not really.

You could not sell what you own and buy new. Factor in currency changes and you are still losing value.

I agree on the engineering part, but price wise there's no denying that $12000 is steep for a watch that cost way less than that just 3 or even 2 years ago. And it's still the same watch.

True, the Overseas chrono is a lot more expensive than the Daytona. I was referring to the non-chrono Overseas which is in a totally different league than the Daytona.
But chrono vs chrono, how about the Breguet 3810ST type XXI?

And to be honest, how often does one frequently use the chrono function on the watch?
I use it to time the spaghetti when I'm cooking, and even then I use my old citizen aqualand which is more easily readable than an analogue chrono.

My point isn't to bash Rolex in any way. On the contrary; I own a few of them myself and am proud of it. They are perfectly engineered watches.
But there is no denying that the price increases puts Rolex in a different perspective in comparison to watches in the same price range.

This is a double edge sword for me. Kind of glad seeing as I just bought my Deepsea about 2 weeks ago. Best investment ever!!! But now I am hooked and was thinking of another one. Guess I'll wait longer.

I don't think the depth rating, 600 m vs. whatever enormous depth DSSD can handle, will be a deal breaker when choosing between an Omega or Rolex. But I could be wrong.
