Are we supposed to "wear" a Rolex?

Wear it, abuse it. My GMT is 8 months old and covered in dings, scratches and battle scars - that's what they're built for and they'll survive a worse beating than me, that's for sure.

i tend to be super careful of expensive things. my 2011 Audi S4 still smells new inside because i have never brought any type of food or anything in it.

however, when i bought my DSSD I didn't hesitate to wear it - conclusion, i am very paranoid about everything being perfect and tip top but i that doesn't stop me from enjoying my watch

If you were talking about a $100,000 Grand Complication from Patek, I might see where you're coming from. However, you're talking about a relatively simple, mass produced stainless steel watch so... wear it or sell it.

I wear mine in rotation with others just because I am not a '1 watch guy'.

But the Rolex gets 50% of the wrist time despite 6 or more other choices, and the Rolex gets 100% of the wrist time at work or in a shirt and tie.

After 1 year there are a few scratches (no big nicks yet) but I gladly trade them for the pleasure it gave me over the course of the year. Plus you can always get it polished if it really needs it.

The only time I won't wear it is during 'dirty work' such as yard, lake maintenance, etc simply because I keep it uber-clean and don't want to mess that up.

Have worn ROLEX 24/7/365 (give or take a night here and there) for decades. Many here have worn a ROLEX much longer. I never did understand the need to baby these timepieces (well perhaps a Cellini model). Rather like having a Porsche and never taking it to red-line or driving it in the rain. To each their own..

I have had my GMT2C for just under 2 weeks and I welcome the 'dings' it's already taken a few I work all day in it.. I definitely have not dropped 5k on a watch to see it on the weekends!!!

Hans must be turning in his grave from overconcern people have for their Rolexes. A Rolex,as seen by Hans, was the watch designed to take extreme useage. Look at their historic advertisments.

I wear my Yachtmaster every day. I do not wear it when I am doing things, such as construction jobs around the house, that could gratuitously damage the watch and/or crystal. But, other than that, I do not worry about it.

It's akin to my car. I have a nice all wheel drive SUV with leather seats. I am not going to worry about regular wear and tear, dings, etc. but I am not going to mistreat my car, either.

Wear it each and every day for what ever you do. That is what I do. My datejust I have even used while operating a jack hammer. I use mine wean I swim in the sea, play paintball, soccer and so on. A Rolex can handle a lot more then many thinks. But they will get scratched, but then again so will all watches.

I would never dream of not wearing my watches - Rolex or not for that matter. I do not like having possessions and not using them - especially expensive possessions.

Like everyone else seems to say - these are like the great Mercedes and Porsches made, designed and engineered to be used and not just coveted.

In fact I always wear a watch and only every remove it to take a hot shower.

Yes, I look after them because I respect them. I have a full Rolex overhaul service every 5 years - they come back like new for the next 5 years of regular wear.

The only problem is I cannot wear 10 watches at a time! Cheers.

I wear, but do not abuse my watches. Still, Rolex sport models are much tougher than you think, even the precious metal models.

I live in a historic neighborhood with brick sidewalks built on a hill, so in rain or snow, walking down to the supermarket or pubs can become treacherous. The day after Sandy hit, the winds were calm but it was still very rainy when I decided to meet up with some friends to grab a burger. On my way down the hill, I slipped/got hung up on a brick and went flying forward. The way my left elbow and forearm was bruised up for two weeks one would expect serious damage to a piece, but I'm confident my 116619 will come back from service looking new again. I did however make the resolution to stick to stainless steel for inclement weather!
