My friends bought a apartment (10 years ago) in a gated community at the Gold Coast where the stay for about 3 months a year. Each time they arrive they have to buy some new furniture and a new TV . . . Must be fun . . . HAGWe |

I don't think the South Africa Department of Tourism is too happy with you, Chris. You seem to describe a very different picture of SA than on the one on their website.
Hated reading about your car a couple weeks ago and now this. Glad to hear you're ok, though. Stay safe and keeps those windows rolled up! |

Stay safe Chris! My friend "Andrew" from SA who moved with his family to Finland use to tell me stories... Sometime I took them with a grain of salt. I actually also know of another guy who moved to SA some 15 years ago, worked as a hotel manager at an upscale hotel in Johannesburg for years. He loved the country, the people (good ones), the beautiful nature, etc. But he said to me he got tired of living in a house with metal bars around all windows, he's back since a few years ago.

Glad to hear you are safe and hope nothing similar happens again.
Many people who die in such situations do so because they tried to take these guys on or seek vengeance. Bear in mind these people come prepared and ready - it is best to just drive away if possible. |

The Australian country city where I live has quite a number of ex-South African doctors. Go to one myself. They all have the same reason for leaving.
