There is no absolute favorite, but there is today's favorite. So my answer is qualified as "TODAY my favorite is…"

With that in mind, I echo the Negroni and Sazerac calls above. I would also toss in the following:

For Whiskey People: Robert Burns (switching Drambuie for Benedictine), Old Pal, Paper Airplane;

For Gin People: Southside, Corpse Reviver No. 2, Last Word, Gin Rickey;

For Rum People: A proper daiquiri with only three ingredients and no slush, Fog Cutter, Mojito;

For Tequila People: A proper margarita with three ingredients and no slush; and

For Vodka People: Bloody Mary, Cape Codder, and Harvey Wallbanger (just to help out the poor guy selling Galliano).
