Amazing Wedding Gift For My Friend!

So a while back I started a thread asking for some advice on behalf of my best friend's fiancé (now wife). She wanted to get him a Rolex for a wedding gift. She didn't know which model he'd want or what the prices were, but she said she'd be willing to spend 10k-15k.

I've known my bud for almost 30 years and since we were in high school, he's always considered the Daytona the unicorn of watches and really all material things! I knew immediately this was the watch for him.

However, I reached out to forum to ask opinions on whether she should spend a little more and get him a pre-owned white gold daytona, or stick with brand new and get him a steel model. As always I got some great feedback and advice from you all.

Also literally the week she asked me for advice, Rolex released the ceramic Daytona. So there were a lot of decisions to be made. Even though the wedding was many months away at the time, I told her she should start visiting ADs and at least get on a list for either. After doing a little recon with my friend, I realized he actually liked the look of the classic 116520 better so that made things slightly easier. So it was settled. We were on the hunt for a Brand New 116520.

So, his wife walked into the first and closest AD to her home, asked if they had it in stock (keep in mind the watch was technically discontinued at this point), and the salesperson said... "I just got one in that someone has a deposit on, and they literally just backed out cause they want the 116500, today's your lucky day!".

So the big day was a few weeks back. Sorry I don't have better pics, but at least I thought I'd share the story. My friend was completely shocked! Totally blown away, and is in love with this watch.
