Irony/Stoner "enlightenment": Believing that a display of punk-ass, boyish behaviour and making juvenile, insulting comments towards women just because some don't appreciate your James Bong set-up are somehow acts a man would engage-in or represent as an example of "defending men".

I'm thinking the Willie Nelson break was the first mistake. I hope you didn't cost your wife her job.

There's a reason why work Christmas parties (yours OR hers) have a deserved reputation as potential "career limiting moves". (the reason is called "alcohol" but you could substitute "drugs" I guess)
I have a predilection to 'speak the truth' (as I see it) at any time, let alone when I have had a few drinks so I always used to be on my best behaviour at these painful events where some of the nicest colleagues turned into monsters after a few drinks (and interestingly vice-versa)

If people don't notice my Rolex, I ask them to ask me the time.

Sounds like a bit of party repartee is all........good fun, a little give and take. Some people have to get preachy. If you had posted that you had jumped into a frozen lake to save a puppy they'd criticize you for getting mud on the carpet. You know that those folks are a lot of fun at parties.

Post Party Update: I was informed this evening by my other half that the 'lady' who attempted to douse me with her Cosmopolitan will be taking a forced leave of absence to attend substance abuse rehabilitation. Apparently she developed a Percoset/alcohol problem stemming from an earlier automobile accident that manifested itself in certain anger management issues at the office. Wishing her a successful recovery. BTW, no one lost their job(s) and life/work goes on as usual.
Agreed (to a certain extent) but there are limitations, especially when a 'wacko' is involved. Quote:

I don't really care what people think about my watches, so I wouldn't feel the need to correct any Rolex stereotyping going on, unless it was directed at me. And even then, tact and a healthy dose of sarcasm would be the goal.
I'm not sure why you would think it's appropriate to behave poorly at your wife's work party. That's usually a "good behavior" kind of event. The people you annoy today with thoughtless comments may be deciding on the fate of your wife's promotion, transfer, etc. And if you think bosses don't notice these things, you're delusional. I hope for her sake this is just a bunch of Bs trolling.

Only when I actually started paying attention to this kind of stuff OEB. Perhaps it's the social environment in which I reside/co-exist (but I can't afford to re-locate as of yet). If truth is stranger than fiction, I think I'll go back to wearing a G-Shock.

reading this as a Brit i find it amusing if true/false
some of you guys seem a bit uptight about works social functions and the correct behaviour? here we have a far more relaxed attitude at these type of events especially considering booze is often consumed in quantity by those unused to it what happens at the party stay at the party except of course assault/sexual abuse etc however, we have an unwritten rule that phones are NOT to be used to record anything - in fact phones are considered a social faux pas at these events as for smoking a joint - from friends in the US i hear multiple tales of frequent visits to the 'facilities' to snort Colombian marching power at works social events!! as for behaviour at these types of events, i have seen some totally outrageous behaviour often by those classed as the social elite/upper classes we Brits are well known for going over the top - especially the women |

Wow. The witch hunt is finally on amongst those who obviously missed the point(s). Whether you found these accounts totally ludicrous (or even believable) is somewhat immaterial when compared to the actual the crux of the opening posts. Concerns regarding (1) the disposition of expensive timepieces in the event of a divorce; (2) clarification of water resistance testing; (3) the appropriateness of dressing a corpse in jewelry (or a watch); (4) the unnatural practice of extending a childhood nursing period; and (5) the contempt of various 'man-haters' towards successful male Rolex wearers are common curiosities/events and the follow-up posts provided by various forum members added both insights as well as constructive information to those interested in getting to the bottom of things. Perhaps the key here is the ability to differentiate between an obvious 'troll' post and a provocative one that raises questions of general interest.
Common sense dictates that if one suspects a trolling endeavor, it is often best not to respond at all. On the other hand, everyone is entitled to an opinion and thus, we have discussion forums of various kinds. |
