I think the US team played fantastically and played some great golf, if anything it was gonna be their year without Tiger playing. I think it's a shame that if these allegations are true about the fans and press ringing the players rooms in the middle of the night then it is a little sad and detracts from what would be considered as a great US victory by folk on both sides of the Atlantic. As for your comments on fan behaviour...I'm a tottenham hotspur fan (look it up)...I've seen my fair share of bad behaviour, fighting between rival fans and player abuse. I've been at the Lane and seen players shirts soaked in spit when they take a corner kick! However, I thought Golf was supposed to be a gentleman's game! I don't play the game but those that do have often said that concentration is a major part of the game. Doesn't Tiger often whinge about photo taking, noise at the tee? J |

As one to casually follow politics here in America, I'm one to not believe rumours or friend of a friend stories so until I see a credible link to these stories, I'm suspect of the validity of said stories. After all, if an American zealot wanted to truly sabotage the Euro team, one would have pulled the fire alarm at 2:30 a.m. and had all the hotel occupants and staff out on the street for 20 minutes while the fire department figured out it was a false alarm. A simple phone call to a room would have resulted in me waking up, answering, hanging up and going back to bed in less than 2 minutes. I believe it poor sportmanship to make any deliberate noise in an attempt to disturb a player while that player is going through their pre-shot routine and addressing the ball; however, cheering and being vocal is encouraged at these Ryder Cup events and also at PGA and LPGA tour events. However, I watched most of the Ryder Cup coverage and didn't note a single instance of a fan or player making a deliberate noise to disturb another player in their address of a ball. I don't see how the actions of a few fans (even if true) would detract from what the US Ryder Cup Team did this year. It's not like Phil Mickelson took his DateJust off and threw it at Sergio's crotch when Sergio was about to make contact with his Titleist ProV1. Then, by all means, say that the US Ryder Cup Team cheated and their behavior was unsportsmanlike and uncalled for and such an action detracted from their win. Oh well, perhaps we'll never see eye to eye on this issue but here's to my friend from across the way. |

As I said, the US team should be proud, they played great golf and their putting was almost immaculate! Here's to them and their more sporting fans J |

The high majority of the fans did fine on both the US and Euro sides. Mr. Westwood might do well to check in under a different name next time like most celebrities do even when they're not in enemy territory, and Mr. Garcia might consider not kicking his bag over when he loses a hole like he did yesterday which did actually happen and isn't just an allegation. People screw up... oh well.

When I am knocking a little white ball into a hole, I want yelling, cheering, cussing, and general bad behaviour before, during and after the event.. I will stop in the middle of my put and ask for fan interaction if needed.

Does your caddy hold the flag for you and pull it out at the last moment? I know that is my preference

After this thread I understand why we don't discuss politics here. Congrats to the US team, and well played Europe. I understand the British press is really on Faldo but one of his picks had the best record of either side. He couldn't hit the shots for Westwood, Sergio and Harrington, the Big Three, who didn't win a match (and no Luke Donald) That was the difference.

The gutter would be a move up for most of them.

I think the more important thing is whether there is a lot of cheering by the caddy after the birdie finally goes into the hole.

The only time I've ever had a caddie was when I played the Old Course at St. Andrews with my old man. They were both hilarious and perfect gentlemen all rolled into one. I had to tip mine really well as he had a rake in his hand most of the day

I think the caddy was around 40 Scottish pounds (just before they went to the Euro) and I tipped him about that much as well. Don't quote me on that figure though. It was well worth it whatever it was.
