It's been a while TRF...
The events of last December really put a spanner in the works for me and my small circle has become even smaller. Trust is something that is very easily broken and almost impossible to reinstate once compromised.
Since then, I've recovered, moved on, logged on daily here despite not posting. I won't lie, every time I saw a SD4K thread it burnt me a little inside even though I was genuinely happy for the person making the purchase. But, life goes on and you either roll with the punches or get consumed by hate and anger. I chose the former. Not wearing a watch for 4 months didn't feel right, I'd constantly roll back my sleeve out of habit and see nothing and remember what was once there. Not a good feeling when you've worked really hard for something and lose it in that way. Previously, I'd had the pleasure of owing the 114060 and 116710LN as well as wearing a friend's white 116520 during a trip to Kenya and the SD4K was better than all of them. Those who own one will know exactly what I mean. That watch was just perfection in every way. But my SD4K is gone, discontinued and I refuse to pay silly money for one. Funny how that watch attracted such negative comments and was a slow seller for Rolex but I'll tell you this, to me it was worth EVERY penny! Having said that, over the last few weeks I realised I was ready to wear a watch again and called my AD. I see a lot of negative comments on certain AD's but they were brilliant once I told them what had happened and the fact I had previous purchase history played a part. They offered me a generous discount on the 116613LN that I've flirted with in the past but in the end I wasn't convinced I could carry off the two tone look. The resale played a part too. Next up, the BLNR. Beautiful watch that they promised to get me within 2 months. I received a call today (one week later) asking me to pop in and that they had two watches I may like to see. Needless to say, I passed on the BLNR. I've had the LN and it wasn't for me. The blue aside, it's essentially the same watch. Amazingly looking on some, just not me. I went for something I love. Black on steel. I can't begin to tell you how good it feels to strap that cold 904L steel against my skin again and I left the AD with insurance. A very small price to pay for complete peace of mind. Lastly, I'd like to say thanks to all who contributed in my last thread with advice and kind words. That's what truly makes this forum the best in the world. We can go from a Gerardo food thread to Mr Goldfinger himself Mike posting an incoming thread on a stainless steel watch! Also, a massive shout out to Sam (SC11) and Haywood Milton, I can't thank you enough for helping me out. Life is good, stay safe and be lucky TRF... |
