Over here in the UK the price at an AD for an exp2 is £5,950 whereas the black GMT is £6,200 and the BLNR is £6,550. In the UK the Exp2 is one of the worst value watches in the Rolex lineup. All prices include all taxes. |

In the current lineup, the GMT IIc 116710 can be bought like new with papers in the secondary market for $6500. That's a good deal. Both subs in stainless are good value.
The 16570 Exp II and the 36mm five-digit quickset Datejust can be found in many dial and bracelet combinations and is a great great watch. Oh, and the Thunderbirds in the secondary market. |

Yacht-master 40mm 16622 with grey face, this you can get for $4,500 which is a nice watch and can be worn with anything. It is actually called the Yacht-master platinum and a novice person will think it is more expensive than the gold yacht-master.

Why do you say the Exp 2 is worst value watch? I can't understand your logic?

I still maintain the SS skydewller is the only rolex watch that is priced too low for what it is and thus is the best "value" |

The Oysterquartz. Only 25,000 ever made from 78-2001 and a price point around $3k. Given its rarity and history, no other Rolex offers such value.

16570 Polar with full b&p and costs $2,000 less than a gmt master, watch alone.
I guess design and personal choice matters most and I bought a gmt master afterall. |

I guess the quartz really turns people off, and common non-WIS folks may even think its a replica. As much as personal choice, other people's perception do play a part in our purchase decision afterall.

That's EXACTLY why it's such great value. It's a misunderstood rare unicorn.

My 116610LV actually effectively made me £600 the second I walked out the store in the UK so that logic is rather flawed, saying that a friend received a Ulysee Nardin as a wedding gift, at around £11,000 I believe, wasn't to his taste, went to a pawn shop and was offered £1400!!!

Simple. Whatever holds its value. So BLNR, Hulk, Daytona.

This is the watch that is dominating my thoughts of late. Great picture!
Back to the thread, I'm glad to see the Explorer and Explorer 2 are both considered good bang for the buck, since those are the two I own. I can't beleive how good the prices are on the Mk1 Explorer 1's right now. Amazing value. |

Exactly, which is why I was able to find an affordable DJ in excellent shape for a (relatively) cheap price. My next will be a used 40mm Explorer II, which is also available for less than 5K and yet has the features (GMT) and look I like, and is within my size requirements (42mm is too big for me). This Datejust 126300 with smooth bezel is incredible in value, it also looks good in either jubilee, oyster and rubber bracelets, making it more versatile than fluted WG bezel variations.

Are we talking new? Steel Submariner date for sure. Either hulk or LN. LN if you want to play it safe for investment purposes...but if they ever discontinue the hulk it will sky rocket in price so either or.
Pre-owned and fairly accessible (so no red subs or bakelite GMTs): Pre-ceramic SD or once again steel sub date. The common denominators here are SS, iconic design, and versatility (with hulk being a slight exception to that). |
