It's your money, and you are absolutely free you spend it as you see fit... but, I would consider getting the reimbursement and buying something else for your checked bag. Tumi is a great option, as others have said. Whatever bag you pick, it WILL get damaged if you check it. Just watch as they load them on the plane... they are not gentle. LV is meant for carry on or private flying, imo.

That's why I never spend to much on luggage. I had an expensive piece and I remember watching the luggage come out on the belt and I send to myself that sucks some unlikely ba$t*rd lost their wheel and they have there clothes hanging out. It was me!!!

As long as i get from point A to B safely im happy, even though im well aware its an irrational concern statistically. Absolutely hate flying and did almost 100k miles last year and hated every second. Luggage, whatever.

As I work for an airline, you won’t be getting compensation for a scratch, there is guidelines of how much damage is acceptable to your luggage, and I have one a few when we replaced someone’s bag and those were completely destroyed.

Unfortunately the LV, travel bags and commercial traveling don’t mix, the guys loading bags don’t care that it’s LV all they care about is how they have to stack load 120 odd bags in 40min. You are that concerned about damage then fly with Flex Jet or Net Jets, you have nothing to worry about. Also a word of warning you might always say well I carry on LV but there will be a day when you flight is delayed or cancelled and you are rebooked to a regional jet and will have to check you bag.

I’d recommend as others are mentioned Rimowa they are solid and can take a beating well.

wouldnt this be a warranty issue? My reading of Tumi warranty is for year 1 or 2 all damage is covered, then its more of a gray area.

Im with you on the Rimowas. They look even better beat up with lots of sticker. Hell I even look for a used one once, they were sold almost the same price as new!

Back in my travel days with IBM .....I used cheap luggage......because its going to get lost or banged up so bad that I was lucky to get a year out of one. I bought a Briggs and Riley and paid about 300 for it BUT i got 2 replacements when they got tore up. They honor their products.

I can vouch for B&R having no fine print loopholes or time limits in their warranty. Have had a couple repaired and 2 replaced regardless of age or who/how/what outside forces damaged them. On the new replacements for the unrepairable ones I could see details of how over the years they'd noticeably improved the particular models' design details in terms of durability.

Basically, luggage with a Craftsman hand tool, "even-if-abused" lifetime warranty, which means Briggs & Riley's stands behind their suitcases and bags better than Snap-On Tools does behind their wrenches and hammers.

Im sorry this happened to you. For this reason, I have also always gone for tough luggage rather than higher end leather goods for travel. I have four Briggs and Riley bags and use them dozens of times per year. They can take a beating.

Larry, have a look at Briggs & Riley my friend. They'll be the last ones you'll ever buy. They last a lifetime and if not they'll replace or repair for free, for ever. Period.

Cda said it above. You never check the lv big boxes on commercial planes. You only use them on private planes.

To heck with expensive luggage. I’d still be using my Army duffel bag if I hadn’t wore it out finally. That and it had my name and social security number stenciled on the side in big block letters.

This is spot on. I've recently had a 20 year old B&R suitcase replaced n/c without even a question. Our whole family uses B&R. Frankly I don't understand why everybody doesn't use their bags exclusively. They're built to last and they really do stand behind them. No grey areas after a couple of years. If you buy a set you'll never have to buy another ever again.

That gusseting bracket took a whack, but it should have held on better than that. See if LV will fix it as a defect.

Otherwise those other scuffs are insignificant. The only way to avoid them is to mount your case on the wall sideways and admire it as a modern art masterpiece.

I never heard of them until seeing someone recommend them here. If I had a need I’d probably choose one next time based on what I’ve heard here. I try to research most things before I buy, but even then that can be rather daunting sometimes you have no idea what questions to ask or where to begin. Google as good as it is can’t return good results if you don’t start with good criteria. Frankly that’s why I like this part of the forum because a good number of threads come up with some great recommendations based on other people’s experiences.

No, you buy one for the prestige and to show everyone around you that you can afford to spend thousands of dollars on a suitcase.

That's a nice bag by the way. I'll give you $500 for it... since it is damaged and all.

Seriously though, you might want to take it to LV and see if they can fix it. At least that little protective plastic piece on the bottom near the wheels. The other stuff I wouldn't worry about.

i consider it damage as they took off and lost my louis vuitton cover for it i which caused the scratches and its 1 day old. its not like i made a cover from scratch lol. in the end it's 4k isnt much but its still unnecessary damage. my CC covers up to 3000 worth of coverage so i'm not worried, but why not try to recoupe some money for damages. just wanted share and see everyones opinion on checking in luggages and got some really good insight on how checking in works.

I just don't understand why LV wouldn't warranty that.
