If you want the day of the week emblazoned over the top of your dial, 1950s marquee-style, then get the Day-Date. Otherwise go for a Datejust. Either way, it sounds like you might well be ready for a vintage piece.

The Hodinkee Talking Watches with Jack Nicklaus and his 50-year-old gold DD on a president bracelet is really great.

Really gives you a sense of the classic style of the DD.

Amazing article and video!!

It just struck me:
It must feel great to be just a one-watch-guy. All the memories, all the life: just one watch in hand.

Could that be possible!?!?

Still in production, this reference of the DD 36 was introduced in 2o13. Also tried it on, it's worth it. It is a "Rolex green" sunburst dial, but a little less vibrant than the one on the Sub Date LV and YG Daytona. It suits better the personality of the DD.

It seems to me many here says DD only because it is the more expensive watch, and money clouds peoples minds. If you want solid white, yellow or rose gold and high weight then DD is the only option. None of that appeal to me so I would choose the Datejust for that reason. If money is no barrier then you will see lots of people choosing Datejust over DD, just google celebrities Datejust.

If you are having trouble remembering what day and date it is then DD is the best option, if you remember the day but not the date, then no need for that extra day. In my opinion the dial looks better without day and date. But I need the date on my watch, because I forget the date, but not the day. So for that reason I would go Datejust.

Datejust got a longer and richer history then the Day-Date, yet the DD has a great history too, but still if history matters a lot to you then maybe Datejust, depending on what part and people of history appeals to you. You should read this great story on the Rolex President. If you like history. http://www.rolexmagazine.com/2008/07...nt-part-1.html

Before the day-date, Datejust was the flag ship of Rolex. As you mentioned Churchill, Eisenhower, Martin Luther King and even the creator of Rolex Hans Wilsdorf used a Datejust on a jubilee. At that time you could get the Datejust's too in solid gold, now you cannot any more at least not the men's sizes. I bet that if you could many would look at the Datejust as equal to the Day-Date.

However the Day-date is a beautiful watch and in my opinion you can not go wrong with either one. Also if money is no barrier for you, choose what ever appeals the most to you.

Here is my Daily beater Datejust.

Yes I did not think of that, but you are probably right, that is a great bracelet and should I have purchased a Day-Date that would be my choice. I would love to see that on other models too. However I doubt that will happen any time soon.
