New, a Blue or black dial GV milgauss or a distinctly personal datejust. I’d want to have something different from my friend. I’d prefer the no date sub though i’ve seen Kermit subs lately for around 10k as well, i think that’s a solid long term holder. If i found one i’d hop all over an AD stock BLRO. I think the aftermarket price is going to settle to around $12,500 which is still too much for the watch considering it’s contents. There’s a lot of irrational demand for it. (off topic)

Agree with Sub C but definitely the Date. Slightly over $9000 with tax but I think it's worth the extra couple hundred, especially if it'll be worn every day. Tried to live with the No date Sub everyday and I failed, hard.

Whatever you pick don't look back and stay off the forums. Like others have said if you get a professional model you'll later want a DJ and vice versa.

I would have a look at the basic Oyster Perpetual line; three different sizes, different dial colours, less flashy than a Sub or Datejust, significantly cheaper than 9000$, and probably one of the only models you can currently find at any AD, and maybe get a discount on it.

If I could have only one Rolex it would be a Submariner ceramic. If you want a date, then the Submariner Date is an obvious choice. If you want a GMT, the BLNR or the BLRO (if you can get one at list) would be great choices as well. If I could only have one watch, the Oyster Perpetual 39mm with the white dial is extremely versatile. For something easily obtainable, the Explorer II white dial is a fine choice too.
