Why don't you send it straight to LAWW and have them do everything, from the complete overhaul to the case refinishing? They do fantastic service work as well, and you'll have their warranty afterwards too.

Oh, and not to mention it'll be cheaper than RSC.

Scratched up just looks messy in my book. Let the RSC make it look like new

I was quoted $1,000 for an overhaul, which is more than the $850 by RSC with their international warranty, and includes the refinishing.

If you got a good deal on it then I agree with completing all the suggested repairs and replacements. It’s your watch now and you’ll have the Rolex papers in your name post service. Plus a fresh from Rolex Daytona will make you really appreciate its beauty

I've been looking for an example in that condition for quite some time and can not find one. Please, if anyone has a "beat to hell" Daytona, please contact me. Here's a link to my classified...

Oh, and for the record, I would not have it polished ! ! !

Looks like the watch has previously been polished with a cruddy job....I'd send it somewhere to cut the edges back up if you really cared but you're going to lose more material.....that'd be my only reason for polishing...not for those scratches.

my understanding is that the 116520 does not have sharp edges like the Zenith daytonas, and are a bit rounded? Anyway, I’m going to see what RSC does with it and will plan a case restoration with LAWW if needed.

It's not that rounded....I should know as I own 2 116520s and a zenith.

The 116520 is just like all the other modern Daytonas (I see it on my 116500, 116506, and 116509 as well......the edges are slightly round but it's still far sharper than what I see here.

I wouldn't even touch RSC with this if your hopes are in refinishing.....you need guys like LAWW.

I think the lighting and photo does not accurate represent the ‘sharpness’ and think the lugs are actually in good shape for being so worn, in terms of the case contour. Here’s a close up photo of the lugs. what are your thoughts?

Looks better IMO. I'd need more pics to be sure or have watch in hand.

If all the lugs are that sharp, I'd leave the watch alone and enjoy it. Look at my zenith that's unpolished...been around the block and then some.

Good honest wear is a ok by me.

Step away from that watch, Sir. If that was my watch and those scratches were the result of me wearing it, then that watch would look more beautiful to me than a factory fresh watch without a scratch on it. I would not polish. I would think about getting a new bezel, but no polish.

I would agree, but it was pre-loved by someone else. I just recently acquired it.

An 'unpolished" watch is one thing. A ratty-looking unpolished watch is another.

I would have that Daytona refinished or "polished" for sure.

Based on the picture I would get it polished. From that point on it becomes your individual piece of art.

If it's never been polished I'd leave it that way; if it has, I'd replace the bezel and give it a light one..I personally prefer not to polish my watches though.

Send it to LAWW and watch it come back looking brand new. They can laser weld to diminish lug loss too.

Laser weld to diminish 'lug loss'?!?!

The only time a laser weld is used on a Rolex case is when there's a big dent or chip...

After speaking with LAWW, they can add material to case and work it back down to get it back to factory spec.
