Thoughts on Tesla Cars?

I own a Model 3 and the car drives like a dream. 300 mi range is more than adequate for me. Only shortfall is the interior - cheap materials throughout and the trim looks like a Hyundai’s, not what you’d expect in a $60k car.

Has all the tech, reliability, and performance but poor choice with cabin materials. Same goes for S and X. Tesla should learn from the Germans or even Lexus on what real “premium” interior looks like.

BTW longstanding car manufacturers are coming out with eCars at pricing below Tesla shortly. With the 'rebates' (gov handouts) folding away in some countries, Tesla sales are lagging.

I think a lot of you are forgetting about autopilot. I just came back from a BRUTAL I-880 commute, but thankfully with autopilot engaged, I surfed the web and relaxed for the whole hour. That to me is priceless.

Tesla is a commute car (IMO the best car in the market at it), for weekends I’m sure we all have something much more fun and sexier.

I don't think anyone is forgetting that, being that a good portion of cars on the road have these capabilities. These other manufacturers also have the decency to not name it something so deceptive. Furthermore, when it comes to autonomous capabilities, Tesla is by no stretch the leader, not even close.

I feel the same (as a replacement for my Q7) but something tells me this will be plagued with gremlins just like the A3 electric was....and only certain mechanics at the dealership will be certified to work on these cars so service delays (like Tesla) will probably be a reality.

I own a 2014 P85 with 207,000km and a 2018 model 3 (6k km)
Prior to Tesla I was a big Mercedes guy and when ppl say Tesla has issues my Mercedes was much worse. 2 broken interior door handles on a W204 c class. How that wasn't a recall blows my mind....You cant get out without putting down the window.

As for Electrics cars from the Mainstream manufactures, the Jaguar Ipace looks nice but the lack of a fast charging network puts me off (ie Supercharger network)

Tesla does lag behind in Interior for sure but the driving experience makes up for it IMO. Plus Gas is expensive in Canada ;)

I love the vision. I wanted to love the cars. I came very close to buying one. I stuck with my M5.

I went to look at them. The X is a very ugly duckling that will never grow up into anything but an even uglier adult duck. The S and 3 are fine, but that's it at this point. They look dated. The S is 7-8 years old. That's a lifetime in terms of car design and refresh. It very much looks like a 2010 car and still has a number of design cues from a decade ago. The 3 is obviously newer, but looks like a mid-tier foreign midsize from more than 10 feet away. It also looks dated.

I went to look at buying one. I looked carefully at my neighbor's S. I've read a lot about fit and finish, and THE ONE TESLA HAD ON DISPLAY had major issues. Panel gaps that were large and uneven on the display. A portion of the interior trim seemingly falling off the door on the display. If that's the display, what would the real one I ordered look like? My neighbor's S has body issues you can see from 10-15 feet away with my bad eyes and no glasses. Shockingly, the interior on these $70-100K cars was complete crap.

I hate, HATE the model 3 center screen only.

Perhaps more importantly for the company -- I make no claims about the stock -- they've lost their cool factor. 5 years ago they were rare and seeing one on the highway was like seeing a rare Ferrari or McLaren. They were cool. Now nobody cares if you pull up in one, and there are 3 in my boring, dying, baby boomer, non-tech-city Midwestern golf club parking lot every night. I was also in a conversation with an owner a few months back where he seemed disappointed that nobody cared about his Tesla anymore. I suspect much of their trade was on people who wanted to be noticed (not unlike our watches, so not throwing stones), so don't know if that portends well for the Company as they trend down to Honda prices, if they can.

[Unrelated Thoughts: As a restructuring expert, I doubt the customers financing some of the company via deposits understand the meaning of "unsecured and structurally subordinated creditor." If the company falls on harder times, or if it becomes clear they're not going to sell a $35K car any time soon, mass redemptions of the deposits could be a disaster for the company, making it even harder for them to improve their finish. ]

Within today's market, P/L and multiples makes no difference at times. We do indeed live in interesting times. Cults such as Apple, Goldman Sachs, Tesla, etc are like that it seems. Tesla might be better off focusing on a proprietary HFT platform to front-run the stock market like the Fed bank members do daily.

Maybe allow Tesla cars to mine for Bitcoin while not being used and plugged into power. Why waste all that energy and computational power? Think of it as nearly free money for Tesla owners, as am sure that'd make owners happy. Go mining.

I looked at them but couldn't get past the lack of charging stations and I guess I’m not entirely ready to go all E.

That said, I opted for this plug in hybrid 330e. If your commute is short like mine it's a great option to consider

If I lived in GTA I would seriously entertain one just to be able to drive in the HOV lane on the qew lol
