Best advice I could give you OP, is wait until have saved enough for what you *really* want. I certainly wouldn’t be cashing any long term stocks in to buy a depreciating asset. The sole exception being if you had the means to replace them in the very near future when you can consider it a short term de facto loan to yourself from your savings pot.
Assume the savings are held in trust or are an inheritance ?

I worked picking rocks, pulling mustard, bailing hay and cutting wood before I was 14. I also babysat on weekends. Once I turned 16, I umpired girl's softball and flipped burgers. You can get jobs and make money at a young age.
I say all of this, not as your parent, but just as someone who can appreciate money that you clearly got from your parents or relatives, which you cannot possibly appreciate until you work to earn real dollars (and not a lot at a time). When you bail hay all day for $4/hr (back then) for the local farmer, and think about how long you would have to do that to earn $2k, you start to think more about what you purchase. |

Under 2k would be hard. maybe a vintage 1500 date but I think even those are over 2k. Go with a Tudor

You aren't going to find any decent Rolex in the $2K range. If you like watches as a young teenager, buy a Seiko Divers SKX series watch. My mom bought me one when I was 16 years old and I loved it. Wore it almost every day until my first son was born when I was 30. Had the watch overhauled and now that 20 year old son wears it.
You don't need to sport a Rolex to be a "watch guy".

May I ask how old are you? You can find a nice preowned Tag Heuer Aquaracer quartz for under $1000.00

Sorry I didn''t reply to your earlier question, I've had a lot of schoolwork and have obviously been at school most of the day haha. I talked to them about it and they pretty much said that I could get it but this wouldn't be a common occurance per say. Also, they don't want me selling any of my investments but as I said I wouldn't need to if I could get one under 2k. Thanks.

I'd save up a $3K to $4K more and you'll have a lot more options and you'll be a lot happier.

Must be a misunderstanding; policing would have been making a corrective suggestion. I was merely making an observation.

It's not policing so much as stating the obvious. If it was just you, it wouldn't be such a big deal, but it is a given that a significant percentage of thread responders don't read far enough in to keep up with the conversation, which makes their comments irrelevant. Case in point in this thread, OP has already decided on an Omega, but we still have people replying as though he were still considering dropping $2k on a Rolex. It gets tiresome after a while, especially when you consider that we get notified of each reply. Rather than bristling at being called out, perhaps you can see the merit in the criticism and learn from it.

Wow you must come from a fairly well of family. At 13 I didn't even know what a Rolex is, have $2000 or understand the concept of luxury items. Pretty sure all I wanted was a good pair of basketball shoes to play in.

Also, I know some people were asking me this, the minimum age to get I think any job in Ohio is 14 years old and that is when you can get a work permit.

Adam Brian, I for one am glad that you have interest in Rolex watches. As I said there are watches in the sub $2K range. They are at the smaller size of the men's appropriate sized watches. Specifically the 6694 which is a manual wind watch and had an very long run with in Rolex. If actually hoping to collect Rolexes it would be a watch I'd want (and do have) in my collection. It's not a bad entry Rolex.
Again here is an example from this forum. I've seen other similarly priced on the net. Mine was one of the last made from the late 80s. This one is from the sixties but IIRC it has been serviced recently. https://www.rolexforums.com/showthre...highlight=6694 |

Hi Adam:
I would target a Rolex Air King model 5500 - or a 14000 if you can wait for the right deal. These are great watches to wear now and into the future - as long as you don’t need a date on the dial. Good luck - enjoy the hunt! |

Thanks for all of the information guys. I found a good deal on an Omega Seamaster that I bought. I decided that I could wait to get a nice Rolex that I wanted. I will post pictures of the watch when it arrives. I did take this into consideration for a while though.

Just wait on when you're ready but if you must get a watch the you should look into the Tudor family (maybe used) that could serve.
