Exactly! With honesty being the key word.

There are many folks in the diamond markets of the world operating in NY, Israel, etc...who do very high dollar deals on their word and a handshake, with a transference of good before money even exchanges. Your yes should be yes, and your no should be no. But alas for many its not, which is why we have forum moderators, arbitrators, and attorneys.

I'm sorry you both had to go through with this ordeal. At the end of the day, it's $200 on a $4600 piece. If my mental math is correct, that's like 5%. I'd call him back with the extra $200 & get the watch you want. You both will be happy. Plus, you might want to keep him as a contact for your next piece. He might be reluctant to deal with you in the future if there was a squabble over 5%.
