Welcome shipmate! That was a brilliant post. Great story! We share a love for 007, the Submariner, and service in the U.S. Navy - although I'm on the opposite side of the layer as a P-3 Orion aviator. Can't do better in my opinion than a 5 digit sub.

Great post and congrats on a classic! This forum needs more post like this, vs the crap we have been plague with lately.

Nice pics and congrats. 04 Tundra owner here, know what you mean about the styling lines of Toyota at that time. Also those look like Alden 405 boots in one of your pics. If so they're great boots...love mine. If not they're a good looking pair of footwear.

Hi Michael,
You are certainly quite a storyteller and I'd share a parting glass with you. You had my complete attention all the way throughout your post and by the way adding on your photos and those advertisements was certainly icing on the cake. I like your style I also got my Submariner this year. I went with the maxi case because I wanted to be the first owner. It isn't an everyday watch for me because I rotate it with the Explorer 214270. Now this is really a difficult rotation for me because I don't like taking either watch off - they are my favorite watches! I confess there are times when I'm home alone I'll wear both the Submariner and the Explorer - one on each arm I really like the smooth contoured crystal of the Submariner. Although the Submariner Date is really nice, like you I'm a retired and the Submariner is more my style...besides having the date isn't all that relevant to me. Thank you for your service and enjoy that Submariner of yours |

Great watch, great story, great pics, great post. Congrats. With more than 20 watches in my collection if I could only keep one it'd be my 14060M.

Congratulations and what a story.
The 14060m is my favourite Rolex. I have been around everything over the past 10 years but the 14060 is THE one for me. Mine is a 2012 and when it arrived with me it was like new. I wear it a lot.

My first was a SubDateC after initially walking in and looking at datejusts, but being drawn to the Sub. It was then a decision to decide between the 114060 and 116610. Which I went back and forth on. Luckily they were both in the case at the time.
Congrats on your iconic watch ! In today’s age of so many buying and flipping it’s nice to see someone acquire a piece that they’ll enjoy! Welcome to the club! |

It’s so nice of you all to read my story and leave such warm words. Rode down to Liberty Station today. The Naval Training Center where I went through boot camp and subsequent schools. The base closed down in 1997 and was converted into shops, restaurants, art galleries, markets, museums, monuments, movie theaters, etc. and is now called, “Liberty Station.” Sad that the base had to close, but it’s nice that they retained the original architecture and layout of the base for the most part. They even preserved the old training ship called the “NeverSail!” This land bound vessel was used for all kinds of training and drills. One outstanding monument is the “Eternal Patrol” memorial. There are 52 of these individual monuments honoring those Submariners who gave their lives for their country. Each black stone gives the story of the Submarine as well as the names of the crew members who are now on “eternal patrol.” It’s a very moving experience to read the stories of these brave souls who gave their lives unselfishly for others. If you’re ever in San Diego, Liberty Station may be well worth a visit! Michael Last edited by Michaeli Paulo; 16 July 2019 at 01:52 PM.. Reason: Corrected error |

Fellow bubble-head here! From Groton to San Diego (point Loma). I hope to add a Submariner back to my collection, I’m hoping I cherish it the next time around as much as you do. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The pouch is great for temporary storage and the insert is important to protect the case back from scratches.
