I use them and don’t care. As silly as it is I even catch ADs using the lingo now also |

My sales guy has been selling at an AD for over 30 years. He even refers to them in conversation as the "Batman", "Pepsi", "Rootbeer" and "Hulk". I don't think anything less of him for it. "Batman" is a lot easier to say than "BLNR".

I don't have the memory or care to recall reference numbers or nicknames, so I say, "Ohh, that's a nice blue one. Ohh, you have the white one. Sweeeeet."

In my 40s and DO NOT use them. Only exception is the occasional pepsi and coke when referencing the 16710 since it was available with both inserts.

I’m still trying to figure out how to put an onion on a belt; either the white or yellow...

I'm 55. I think I'm old enough to use nicknames.

This is a stupid thread.........
At 40 I use the "evil" nicknames and will continue to do so. I am not an elitist that needs to refer to watches by their reference number. Get a life! |

Also, what people call their watches bothers me not in the slightest.

Nothing wrong with nicknames per se, but do we really need to use children’s cartoon characters?

My AD uses them. They referred to batman and Pepsi for sure.
Depending on who I talk to I'll either refer to reference numbers or model names to start. I think the only one I probably say to describe a watch is pepsi because its so widely known. I don't really say kermit, hulk, batman, etc etc. I feel those are lesser known.

For some reason non watch people know a pepsi, but if I said a batman, hulk, or kermit they would probably tilt their head at me!

Definitely a product of being married to a watch enthusiast! All those videos you're watching making it into the back of her mind haha I think the general population has no idea about the Pepsi nickname either. |

I'm over 40...not a constant user of the nicknames....but on occasion depending on audience...sometimes it is just easier.

I’ve met numerous ADs, most over the age of 40 who has referenced the models to me by their nickname.

All my local ADs use nicknames, and I have to remember enough pointless numbers for work. Using #s is a bit of a shibboleth for real watch nerds though- maybe some people like that?

I use them occasionally, it’s easier for me to remember than all the reference numbers. Although I often forget which nickname goes to each watch.
