On a positive note, the high demand serves as an affirmation for your good taste. You like the watch, so do hundreds of thousands of others around the world.

On the negative side, you won't get it any time soon.

I would say go with a more attainable goal for now. You can get a DJ41 or YM much easier; they are fine Rolexes as well. Then get yourself on the AD list for the LV.

People don't actually universally like this watch, it sat in AD windows gathering dust 3 - 4 years ago. They like the fact that it is very hard to get and is instantly worth up to double what you just paid for it.

It’s interesting how many times I see a first time poster that wants one of the hot models, saves for months/years only to find out the Rolex game. Seems like some due diligence is getting lost somewhere. Personally, I conduct my research before saving and/or walking into an AD.

OP, good luck.

I am two years away from being 60, so have spoken to my AD about a Sky Dweller, SS/WG/blue (or black), been told no chance, however, I am feeling reasonably confident on getting one as this would be my 3rd Rolex from the same AD so am hopeful that some loyalty will benefit.

But, I spent a fair bit of time on watch forums getting up to speed on horological matters and found fairly quickly that buying Rolex is not like buying an Omega (of which I have two), clearly owning a SS Rolex takes some planning, discussions with AD and a hell of a lot of patience, and maybe a bit of luck.

Hope the OP gets the watch they want.

Took off at lunch to go scout a new AD today. Arrived and couldn’t miss the Ferrari parked at the front door.

After walking to the Rolex section I was greeted by a very nice gentleman who said he’d get the Rolex guy who was not on the showroom floor. 5 minutes passed, nothing. He did offer me a water. Another 5 minutes: “He’ll Be right with you”. After 15 minutes, I walked out.

I had this terrible image of the guy with the Ferrari walking around the Vault in the back seeing all the good inventory with the sales guy while I stared at DJs waiting to get a question answered.

Is that the one in Sudbury that opened a few months ago or is there a newer one in the area?

I don’t know. He seemed pretty upset when I walked in with my GMT for a bracelet sizing. He knew full well that I bought it someplace else and man did he want information (where and how much?).. (answers: I’m not sure I can say and I don’t like to talk money). He was fuming LOL.

I was looking at cellinis while I was there. He was now fully engaged in my prospects as a customer. I got as far as taking my wallet out and then I said that I’m going to pass. He offers me a 20% off discount.. I told him that since I’m already “known to another authorized dealer, I would rather just get it from that guy”. He ups the offer to 25%.. I walked out.

Honestly if you havent bought anything from them, AD's wouldn't take you seriously.

Maybe try to get a TT sub? Usually they're more available to order or purchase without a history. Grey market prices are retarded for an SS sub, sometimes equalling or exceeding a new TT Sub price (hello Hulk???).

What a farce particularly as Ebay have lots with ridiculous mark ups - I guess these are being sold by vip customers !!
I have been dealing with this for years trying to buy a watch for retirement. Just to enjoy, not to resell. Good luck with your search.

Hell yes, it’s as relevant today as it was 2 years ago

What’s worrying is I’m hoping to move to Cornwall later this year, sounds as though the Rolex world down there is a bit like tumbleweed rolling across a desert.

Go Omega Seamaster, just as good as a sub and often mentioned technically better movement.
Most likely get 10-15% off easily (if not boutique).
