Other than the OP saying he needs to downsize, why are people so fixated on

‘Keep the watches you wear’

I don’t wear all of mine regularly, some maybe once or twice a year, but I have them for a reason, and perhaps that reason can be a simple as ‘I like they way they look when I open the box’.

If you only wore a watch one day per year, and enjoyed that experience, then it is worth keeping that watch.

To the OP, if any of them don’t give you the ‘feeling’ when simply looking at them, chop em

The first step in this will be to sell all non Rolex, except for sentimental Montblanc.

All Tudors and Omegas go. I hate to say this, but the market on Omega is soft and its getting softer. Those references might become unsaleable if the economy goes sideways..none are iconic and are just there because you were jonsing for a new watch and they were accessible at that moment. Cut those loose.

The Tudor Pepsi is not needed since you have the Rolex Pepsi(s).

The Tudor Chrono is not iconic and is just a trendy reference with a faux vintage vibe. It can be sold without regret.

Then you will have an awesome collection of desirable and important Rolexes. Enjoy!

Since it doesn’t sound like there is any financial urgency, maybe do a trial run. Cut your collection down to say 8 and put the rest in your basement or wherever you won’t see them. Wear the remaining eight for a month or two and see how you feel with the smaller collection. You may find you don’t miss watch X or Y when you don’t see it and are enjoying others. Any that you didn’t miss just sell. Then continually narrow down to a comfortable number.

Watches, sneakers, beanie babies—- easy to get caught in in the chase to build a collection, get those sought after ones; I’ve done it many times, but then they just sit there, on shelves or in boxes... didn’t really enjoy them for fear of losing value, so it just wasn’t fun anymore....I don’t think I’ve ever missed anything I’ve gotten rid of and it’s allowed me to focus on the few I really enjoy
i got posted abroad for 3 years, so left 11 watches in my safety deposit box, took 6 ‘faves’ with me.
It was nice to rediscover of them upon returning, I’d at one time felt passionate about each of them, but can’t say I badly missed any of them, so I’ll be keeping probably 3.

Course, I did pick up some new watches during that 3 years......

I agree with this. I'd ditch all non-Rolex for a great collection and then, if you want, reassess to reduce duplication in function/purpose/color etc.:

So you'd start with the below (excuse the names im too lazy) and then i can get you down to 8

GMTs
Old pepsi (keep for preceramic)
New pepsi (keep for jubilee and great pair with preceramic)
GMT LN (ditch)
Polar explorer (keep for white face)
Batman (ditch to keep the blue sub)

Divers
Hulk (keep for green)
ND (keep because classic and no date)
Blue sub (keep for blueeee and because it is better than the batman)
SD43 (keep for red line and size diversity)

No date all purpose
Explorer 1 (keep because awesome)
Milgauss (ditch)

I say keep the following:

-Ceramic Pepsi or Batman (very tough choice)
-Blue Sub

Flick the rest and take advantage of the premiums and pickup one super nice chronograph like a Patek 5968A:) since you obviously like sports watches.

3 piece combo meal deal.

I would sell the Tudors, Omegas, Montblanc and one of your black subs. Then I would add a Daytona.Don't get rid of the 16710. Keep your discontinued GMT's.

So, it seems like: START = 17 Watches

“A couple that are staying for sure”:

Montblanc Chrono

Tudor GMT

SD43

116619lb – gets most wrist time

216570 – gets most wrist time

116610lv

114060 – gets the most wrist time = +7

A couple that should go:

I don't wear the Milgauss, Aqua Terra and feel like I'm forcing myself to wear the Explorer. ( -3) = 14

Seems to me that you could sell all 3 Omegas & make room for the Omega SS w/321 that will come out later this year (or early next). (Accounted for Aqua Terra in line above) (-2 +1 = -1) = 13

Would keep the Pepsi on Jubilee & set the Pepsi Oyster free (-1) = 12

Would lose the GMT LN (boring in your collection (IMHO) & too many black dials (& keep the BLNR (I like mine) ( -1) =11

Would lose the black sub w/date -(you know you like the ND better and bought the Sub Date just to have it.) (I prefer a 5 digit date, myself) (Net -1) = 10

This has you moving out 9 watches, keeping the 10 you like and/or wear most, and planning on buying a new Omega 321 (b/c/ you “want at least 1 Omega”).

Just a few additional random thoughts:

I’ll leave what to do with the Tudor chrono up to you

A platinum/rhodium YM would help round out the collection (& isn’t another black dial)

A collection this strong is in need of a Daytona!

You will get as many opinions as there are responses.

Good luck!

Do not sell any of your beautiful watches. Not even one, is my opinion, you have a nice collection.

I'm struggling with similar issues -

at least the Rolexes will sell and you will actually turn a profit - plus if you have regret, and want to buy back - I do think that we are approaching the peak (if not past it) so when you want to buy back in, it will likely be for less than what you sold at now..

the others are harder - the Omega sales (if you paid Retail) - might hurt, and the sting of the hit might be more significant than the cash it brings...

If you tried to flip the Omegas - you might find that for the cash you would get, you'd rather just keep it, or save it to gift it to someone...

or - just pile them together as part of a trade deal so you you can factor in a deal/discount on a new one -

I tend to be a buy and keep guy, but I am feeling the "too many watches" thing too... the ones I've sold, I regret almost every one of them... the ones that I have traded, at least give me something else to look at -

the worst was one time - I sold for a pile of cash - that somehow became my wife's "loose money envelope" and seemingly evaporated... so there was nothing to show for it...

Doesnt seems to be to hard. Your collection is redundant. 3 pepsi's? 3 black divers/gmt?
I'm planning to downsize as well with 25+ watches but way more difficult as all so different.

I would keep one tudor, one omega, two gmt's , two divers and the exp1 and exp2. Flip the rest for daydate/daytona or even better something from AP/Patek.

Another approach and, one I've mostly used when deciding what to buy, is the functional approach. You need a few dressy pieces if you spend time in a suit. Maybe only one or two if you don't. You need a few steel sports watches for your daily wear. You may need a tool watch or two. That will really limit your rationale as you tick the boxes.

Then there's the "filling in the collection" rationale. Something on a band, something on a bracelet, something with black dial, white dial, etc. Maybe a couple collectibles. An unusual conversation piece. I've also noted how many of each brand I've added. Too many Rolex? Let a couple go and get a VC or AP. This eliminates needless overlap in SS sports models. Like you, I've got a growing collection and feel guilty not all my pieces are getting fair wrist time.

When it comes down to it, I've tried mostly to put together a collection of nicer and nicer pieces, based at least loosely on the above. Theoretically, I'll unload the earlier pieces as I move up the ladder and find myself with a small collection of amazing pieces. I think many of us reach that point. In the end, it should be only those watches you love to wear. Quality (enjoyment, not value) over quantity.

If it were my collection, and without knowing if you are sentimentally attached to any of them, I would get rid of everything in the top left box and and the brown box. I would likely get rid of the polar, and the BLNR as well and add a ceramic daytona and a daydate if you prefer to stick with rolex. You'll have only 1 watch box filled fully and 1 extra watch on the wrist.

It's tough for sure. Buy something for the right reason, but over time other purchases make the item redundant or less interesting. I'm in the same vote.

If a watch stops bringing you joy, then don't hesitate to sell it. Sounds like the list of keepers, is just that, the list of keepers. You list them for a reason.

Personally from your collection I would keep:

Sub LB and LV (what a combo)
Explorer II Polar (great dual time option, or rough and tough adventure watch. When traveling this doesn't scream "I'm a Rolex, steal me")

If you were to bundle some watches, you could really get a high end piece. Do any those magical grand complications out there call to you? I know they call to me. And I'm considering the same thing.

Though I get caught up chasing unicorns and rare watches. The higher end Gold or Platinum models bring me a lot more joy on the wrist.

I tend to agree with this. I would get rid of the above mentioned including one of the Pepsi’s and add a Daytona then stop.

Personal decision so I won't comment on specific watches, but my approach is if I don't wear it, it gets sold. There will be some you like to look at, and attracted to the idea of owning it, but don't enjoy as much on the wrist. I've found that with Patek over the years...Rolex Omega and Tudor are the main ones I still get excited to put on each day.

I try to be smart about the money but don't buy it or keep stuff just because it is popular. I have to want to wear them.

Not only too many watches but a lot redundancy also. A representative model from each type watch would trim the collection down considerably. I would not do anything but chill. If you trim down, you will be right back adding and rebuying the stuff you just sold. Keeping all these watches may prevent more buying which would be a good thing for you. So your not as much "struggling" to downside as "struggling" not to buy anything more. (At least for the moment.)

Keep what sings to you. Sell the rest. Personally, I would keep the 8 Rolex box wear one other watch and call it a day. That way the box will always be full when you switch watches.
