31 I think is the safest bet.

My wife has small wrist and no interest in a large watch. Other women like the oversized look. YMMV.

Best to take her to try them on and see what she prefers. If it's a surprise, see if you can buy one that you can take back and swap if she doesn't love it.

I looked at the DJ lineup with the aim of gifting one to my mother in the future.

I think 34mm would be the safest best, alas, it seems like Rolex has relegated this size to 2nd class choices : no jubilee, no diamonds, no two-tones, less dials.

Poor marketing decision IMHO.

My wife has slender wrists and went with a Tudor Glamour date 36 for her anniversary present (I couldn't talk her into a DJ)
