Actually, that is a fabulous idea.

If we have enough strong interest (at least 12 or more) from people who are serious and will seriously commit, I'm happy to lead the charge with organizing something with one of the brands.

I propose H. Moser & Cie as the brand to work with as they're the other brand, other than Gronefeld who seems to be willing to do this: https://monochrome-watches.com/h-mos...orology-price/

What do you all think? Any other brands you propose?

+1.
I'm interested or maybe a steel 1921.
If you can gather more people that might be interested we can get the ball rolling. Les Cabinotiers.

For a Richemont brand to care enough to do that will be tough.

I recommend an independent brand.

Probably too late now, from what others are saying above.
It's never too late, passion and money talks. TRF has clout, I think.

Forget Richemont, 100% agree it needs to be a proper independent.

Ok, it's 4am and I have an idea. How about a timepiece with a manual wind mechanical movement with only that which is necessary for a single hand. The most minimal of parts count (excluding jewels), yet each part is a piece of artwork that compliments the next, or 'themed' section/bits.

Below were just two easy find pics, NOT the actual design in mind by ANY means other than they have one hand.

PS: Must have 100m WP screw-down crown. Movement outer edge has Sorbothane (or some gasket) between case that acts as a 'suspension' to increase resistance to shocks. Oh, and it needs to pass METAS certification. Basically, a single-hand piece of mechanical art that is extremely durable. The dial, only that which is necessary, artistically done, yet adhering to the utmost principle of legibility in most environments.

Do we know for certain that these were presold group buys? What other group buys did Gronefeld do for the Principia? Just b/c they are getting delivered soon doesn’t necessarily mean that they were all sold 7-8 months ago. That being said, I did inquire with Cellini about a Principia around Christmas and I guess if they knew that a LE was coming out soon that had availability, they probably would have told me to “stay tuned” even if they couldn’t give me details.

I can’t give away details, but I am a part of another special principia edition. It works much the way I said a few posts back.

This would work perfectly with Moser’s design ethos.

Man I would make a full deposit today for a steel 1921 that’s a watch I have been hoping VC would make the last 5 years or more.

Sadly probably true that they wouldn’t make that for us. Maybe for Hodinkee which is what I had been hoping.

Hmm possible I guess it depends on the watch and what we can agree on amongst ourselves and with the brand.

I question if any brands we desire would be willing to do this as they likely have requests for such work from retail partners, online publications and watch collecting groups already.

LF or Urwerk only other ones that come to mind. I don’t think MBF is likely to play ball or I’d say them.

There’s Czapek. Cartier or GS would be super cool but probably again difficult to make those contacts.

You might need to rebrand who these watches are going to. Sending them to a group of guys in the Rolex forum sounds like a recipe for flipper city lol

Laine has told me he will make a first time ever precious metal case if enough people can fully commit.

That means:
1) Independent!
2) Super dial, hand, numeral options each person can choose their own within what Laine can accommodate.
3) Movement options including a microrotor Vaucher with internal angles on the anglage

In rose gold, let's say, as I have two people who would do that.
Steel, no group buy, just write him yourself...

Vote for manual, have many that look like the micro-rotor.

Black dial, rose gold raised Breguet, and may as go Breguet classic moon hands. As for underlayjng dial pattern material/treatment, what program / format do they work in? Is some movement material customizable? I'm no Kari, yet if I have access to the computer design / program (have Adobe Master collection) I could play around with the visual insperation.

Does the manual fit the 38mm case?

I would love to be a part of a Laine TRF watch. His dials are beautiful and I love the independents

I would love a GG3 in RG or WG with a blue or salmon dial. The engraving he does is gorgeous. It’s like a UJ dial and a M Grossman movement.

I’m guessing speedy will have an opinion on this bold statement.

I do agree laine has a compelling value and classic looks that are hard not to like.

Hahaha. You know me too well. I'll just say Laine is a brand that represents a good value. I'll refrain from my usual antics that may derail things.

Hahaha. Should have highlights the like. There are certainly a lot of differences. But I do see the value. And would be open for a group buy

I’d love for a Benzinger to be a Brequet. Or a Dornbluth to be a Lange but there is certainly differences in the details.

I spoke to David at Garrick watches today and it very interesting. He mentioned they do small batches for boutiques. Maybe another option for a group purchase. No micro rotor but a high level of custom options.

What if we contact AP and see if they would do a group buy for a 16202 with red dial?

Hard pass. Want to support an independent who creates mechanical art with personality and passion.

You should go for it with others. Am sure an AP will be popular.
