Just don’t get it wet after midnight it will be okay. Haha. No on a serious note. I work out , steam room , hot tub and have done just about anything with my submariner and a date just never an issue. People will tell you don’t do things but you should be okay

What I was asking was whether or not daily exposure to hot water and detergents would degrade the seals faster. I should have connected the dots for you. |

Did you get your answer? Wash your watch with soap and brush (Per Rolex) shower with your watch... I wouldn't buy a Rolex if I couldn't do something as simple as wash it everyday. |

If you’re talking modern Rolex, you can shower in it everyday until it’s time for a service and you will never have an issue. It’s like asking can this jeep rubicon park on gravel lol. People are far too concerned with what their over engineered Rolex can endure. I shower in mine nearly everyday in the summer and probably half the time year round.

Read their recommendation a little more carefully. They suggested one shower with it to clean it when it gets dirty. At no point do they say “you can shower with it every day to keep it clean”. That being said, based on anecdotal evidence, it appears that there’s no problem with showering daily with it. |

Have always wondered about the development of underwater exploration vehicles and their ability to go to great depths. It now becomes clear,it is to keep divers watches dry whilst at work!
Pleased I now know this before I Subject my SD43 to the grizzly fate of death by drowning. |

Test the water resistance once every 12-18 months, or after smacking it against something. A dent in the wrong spot can render your watch no longer water resistant instantly. It would have to be one hell of an impact, but it happens. Otherwise, don’t worry about the seals and soaps, just wear and enjoy. It can handle going deeper underwater than you can.

I mean sooner or later watches need to be serviced and tested. No-one is suggesting that someone wear a 5513 from 1967 that has never been serviced go in the tub with their rubber ducky...although probably still fine...just a little more worrisome. |

That why they have digital nightstand tables clocks and also clocks you can put in the bathroom. I guess I grew up not wearing watches to bath or sleep and it's a habit now. Well, different strokes for different folks..

I think that one negative about showering with it is that you will inevitably have some soap suds that don’t get rinsed out. You might be rinsing the sweat residue off the watch but trading that dor soap scum. Do as you please.

I estimate I had nearly 30 years of it and at the end of the day I wasn't particularly impressed with the long term results and neither were the watchmakers necessarily impressed when they had to clean it all up. The novelty of it wears off. |

Surely it’s easier to wash your arm without your watch, so why wear it in the shower?
Or do you live with particularly untrustworthy house mates? |

But by regularly getting the watch wet where it wouldn't necessarily be exposed to moisture, one multiplies the possibility of finding out for themselves if the watch has compromised water resistance and it may not always be at a convenient time or place to get anything done about it in a timely manner. There is a risk which increases as the service interval grows longer. I'll give mine and my wife's Rolex a quick bath with dish washing liquid maybe once a month or more often, but only as necessary depending on what the watches have been exposed to. |

Mine sprung a little leak out of the blue which shocked me. There was no visible damage and the watch had not long returned from a full movement service and the watch was in good order. I think the moisture got in while I was giving it a little bath. It was returned the very next day to my watchmaker and he put it right without issue Come to think of it, that Rolex was the only high quality watch I've ever had water get into. I've had 3 cheaper watches that were rated to 30 metres which sprung leaks one after the other which were replaced under warranty until the last one died then it was binned just out of warranty. I persisted with them way back in the day because the first was a gift from my then Ever Loving Sweet Sweet because I was pining for my "real watch" while it was away being serviced over Christmas. |

Showering daily with your Oyster….
I had a ceramic sub on my wrist 24/7 for years. It was swam with, showered with, worn while gardening, anything that daily life entails. It never failed. Perhaps in another 10 years the seals might’ve been compromised, but by then I’d have had it serviced.

Then I continue washing the other bits and pieces. I only do this when they need it not everyday. So a couple times a year or whatever. Just had to clarify because I agree I hope no-one is using a bar of soap and keeping it on the entire time. I can see why some are "grossed out" by that thought. For me its no difference than doing what Rolex says with a brush, detergent in a bowl. Actually I'd probably never use a brush like Rolex says to. |

In this case, there are individuals who routinely shower with their Rolex and have not observed failure of the seals. These are simple things that are not subject to interpretation. (Granted, “failure of the seals” can go unnoticed by the layperson - myself included - but assuming for arguments sake that we all notice it the same way….). |
