Well I have to go to a different dealer tomorrow. They basically want you to prequalify for the car before a test drive at dealer I went to today which means a hard credit pull.

I went BMW again in Nov of 2021. On my third. I realllllly want to like the Lexus... but prefer the BMW.

BTW I have the M340i, i wanted a 4 door otherwise I'd have gone with the M440i

What a hard credit pull for a test drive??? I randomly walked into a dealer in MA and took out a M440i with just a take a copy of my license. was gone for a bit

ETA: Did the AD ask to see your bank account before you tried on a Rolex? ;-)

Pay a car buyer broker $500 to set up your test drives. They get paid when a deal closes.

Type in your zip and tell the broker what you want to drive. They handle all and never give your credit info to a dealer for anything except a deal. It’s total bs and below a Forum member to do otherwise.

He said it was bc they didn’t wanna rack up miles on the m4 and “bad things” have happened in the past on test drives to which I responded “you should get insurance in that case”. I will admit I usually wander around looking rather disheveled when I’m not in the office so he may have just been making a judgement call lol

I left a Rolex in an Airbnb shower once. Thankfully the owner was honest. That woulda been a bummer.

Had both. I wouldn't buy another BMW again, but would buy another Lexus for a reliable daily driver.

Lexus. Lexus isn't sexy or exciting, but every single thing works exactly the way it is supposed to every single time you get in the car. There's a lot to be said for reliability and predictability.

4 of my last 5 cars have been Volvo (one was a Lexus) and, as much as I love my Volvos, they just don't hold a candle to the Lexus. I just keep getting sucked into the incredible lease deals they sometimes offer.

I’m a BMW buyer but I know a more sensible person than me would be buying a Lexus…

Bimonthly unexpected visits to service dept
Vs
annual scheduled service appointments.

I’ll take the latter/the Lexus.

Of course your driving experience w the Lexus will be as boring as possible vs one of the most enjoyable.

I don’t have time to waist at the service dept.

Would you Lexus or BMW?

Just thought about it, if you’re not hard set on the branding thing… the Toyota Mk 5 Supra now comes with manual trans which would be pretty fun bone stock.

That’s said, it still has future tuning potential, it’s very affordable, has the best of both worlds (Gazoo Toyota with monster BMW inline 6 engine).

Friends that own the first models have no complaints with service cost post warranty but all of us do most of our own maintenance work.

If you were serious about buying and they pulled this, that’s wrong.
They judged you for sure.

If you can swing it buy a new one, you don’t want to buy a used M car. It was drive by a jackass before you, so it’s important to be the first one on them.

That being said, Lexus makes very reliable cars. They just don’t make enjoyable cars.

You don’t find my Lexus es300 hybrid 0-60 time of 8 seconds enjoyable?!

Was hoping to score a 2020. Don’t love the new front ends. Most of the cars have 15k ish miles. I didn’t think they’d be too beat up with that low mileage. And, yes, I would have bought the car today had they let me drive it and not treated me like a leper. I may have to buy a new one and pretty woman them

So the Lexus was indeed boring. The M4 is insane! However, as Steven said, the steering is quite lackluster which honestly surprised me. I think I’d do the M4 tho. I may look at some Mercedes options too.

I found most Mercedes outside of S classes to be very mediocre. With the exception being some of the AMGs. If you’re in the S class market, they are unbelievable. The gtr is amazing as well but obviously only a two seater.

M4s are great. That sounds like a sweet option.

Get a sales guy who likes cars to show you the different settings. They have a button for throated exhaust. One for handling. One to change the aggressiveness of the sport mode. Traction control off. Manual clutch or high rpm gear change. Tons of options and my understanding is the M4 has more, .
I have the M2 button on the steering wheel set to activate: traction control off, manual shift, sport plus, sport steering. Once it’s warmed up jumping up to a 100 is really easy. I’d suggest to dress the part when you go buy a 50k car unless you know them, but that’s just me. Or wear a really nice watch, they know about them too!

Well I live in SoCal so there’s no dress code for any parts here. Some of the most affluent among us would easily be mistaken for homeless by many, lol. I will look more into the setting thin that sounds interesting. Is the comp package worth the extra dinero?

Not sure. What would you recommend (that comes in convertible ideally) and can be had $70k or under?

Certified E400/E450/E53 with an extended warranty. As with anything European, trade it the day before it runs out.
My car search is finally down to leasing a new Escalade or buying a cert s-class (I like the 222 over the 223) with all the warranty fixin’s. I don’t want to get stuck with maintenance or repairs on either.

Generally yes, especially if it’s got the racing seats. Those are impossible to get otherwise. But the rest of the upgrades are nice too. I really like the ceramic brakes.
Yeah I lived out there for a bit, it’s casual around the south, though you hadn’t shaved or just cut the lawn :)
Good luck and one last thing, it’s still a sellers market but that migh just be about to change depending on local dynamics

My wife desires one of these (E350 Cabriolet), in that colour (Rubelite Red, I think).
She has a C350 estate which she loves, but is only doing about 60 miles a week so...I may get it for myself.

4WD too Jesse!

well the c63 is the direct competitor to the m4 and comes in convertible as well, but it's a soft top so i think the m4 has it beat there

the E class has one that has very similar styling to the c63 as well. much more luxurious interior but a watered down ride with it not being a 63. you could also probably find some S coupe convertibles in your price range. i guess it just depends on what you're looking for. if it's performance then c63 is probably your best bet. i have one and love it. the m4 is probably the "better" car on a track but the 63 is a monster with an amazing sounding v8. if you want something more on the luxury side then merc has a lot of options to go through

Awesome. I’ll pop around and see what I can drive today. I do think the tide is beginning to turn on the car market. I was shopping for a mountain home last year and the market had clearly been bloated for some time, I made an offer that a seller basically didn’t even counter on a remote place with lots of land. I told the agent that he’d be back to take my offer when he finally woke up to reality. The agent messaged me 3 weeks ago to see if I was still interested. Ha. I said I already found something. Had a similar conversation with a super cocky 20 something “salesman” at a dealership yesterday who was explaining to me this is the new norm for car pricing. I had to laugh.
