It is interesting that you say that it could be a "novelty watch". I had the exact same concern and used those exact words many years ago on this very forum. But, after almost 1-year of ownership, I can say that the novelty hasn't worn off. Checking the time is an experience. The tiny machine inside literally moves the discs at the top of every minute for you to read the time ... how cool is that!

I wear it on my 6" wrist on a regular basis, without any issues.

Go with your heart, and no matter which one you pick it'll be the correct choice! ��

Just beautiful! Unbelievable you have both these models. Grails of grails! Zeitwerk is the most unique and special, Datograph has THE movement.

I would love it is ALS makes a watch that has the movement on the dial side, like a skeletonized watch but more like the GO Panoinverse.

It would just be a marvel to look at.

you are talking about the new Zeitwerk right? much thinner and longer battery reserve than the last one.

It was the Zeitwerk that drew me to ALS, but I balled at the reserve.... Now I am waiting to try it on at the boutique...

Much thinner by 0.4mm

Power reserve is much better but the original movement looks nicer to my eyes.

I played with both the new RG and PT versions of the ZW at an event a few weeks ago. I prefer the aesthetics of the older models, which have no red accents on the dial and have nicer looking movements, but the technical upgrades, slightly thinner case, and smaller bezel are nice refinements. Worth seeing in person if you can.

highly recommend getting the new ZW on your wrist you may be surprised. I got a chance to try both of them a few weeks ago.

so….this pleasant surprise happened a lot earlier than I originally anticipated.

It was a difficult decision deciding between the Dato & ZW both iconic timepieces. As many of you correctly pointed out - no wrong decision here. But, in the end I choose the Dato as my entry into the Lange & Sohne family.

You chose well. The Dato is a legend for good reason. The ZW would be a great add-on, but I'd never choose it as a first or only Lange.
