I can't believe all the uproar about the nicknames. OP put the reference number in the post title, for goodness sakes, not to mention a picture of the watch, so it wouldn't seem that hard to figure out what he's talking about.
In answer to the actual question, as opposed to moaning about his use of nicknames, I would say this. I like the steel dial (some would say ghost lol), as I've been an owner for several years now, but its legibility is poor. I actually think the black dial (I won't dare even utter the blasphemous nickname that has offended so many of my fellow members), would have better legibility. Put it to you this way, if I was a buyer today, I would lean toward the black. And yes...I think it's a no-brainer as you don't have a Daytona in the collection. |

I normally don’t mind nicknames at all. In fact I like them because they make the hobby more accessible. That being said, “Baby Lemans” is dumb. It’s just an effort to attach the cachet of a super hot watch to a non-hot watch, which is just lame. That watch is nice in its own right.

Do racing enthusiasts still use a mechanical chronograph wristwatch designed to meet the needs of racing drivers by measuring elapsed time and calculating average?
I didn't think so. Is it nostalgia? |

Congrats! You will really enjoy it! My comment earlier about preferring the silver dial was just a preference - I love the bright black dial too! (Otherwise I wouldn’t have one) the sunburst black is really beautiful.

I love that watch, probably my favorite PM on OF.
Let’s please stop with these Mickey Mouse nicknames. They’re so cringe that they actually deter me from some of the pieces lmao. I’d be pissed if someone walked up to me and said “is that a pikachu?”.

Well done on acquiring the watch. It does look very very very nice!
Will have to agree that the nicknames are awful, and the “baby Le Mans” is no exception. Whilst I agree, it’s easier to refer to timepieces using nicknames, and most folks don’t use model numbers, most of the nicknames are terrible. |
