A gold sub like the 16618 is simply jaw dropping gorgeous.
Even the blind can feel it's beauty.

Let's face it, there's nothing practical about a Gold Sub, it's purely a statement piece. A very Bold one at that!
I love the ones with a Diamond Dial. If anyone owns one, please post it.

For me it is pretty much the dial. I have always loved blue dials and the sunburst blue is tops for me. When I had the TT Blue Sunburst, within days of selling it, I regretted doing so. I replaced it with this one.

I am not sure what the point of this post is. It is a futile argument.
What is to like about a precious metal Sub? EVERYTHING Paying less for a TT 116523 panda dial brand new Daytona than a used SS non ceramic - now that is screwed up!

They make gold subs and other tool watches in gold for one reason... they sell. Tool watches are not tool watches anymore. They are dual use jewelry and watches. Does it make sense that a dive watch is made in YG? Maybe not the most practical and affordable tool watch... but Rolex learned there is a market for gold Sub and other PM tool watches and the margins must be pretty good so they make them. People buy them because they want to. Don't need to over analyze it. Many people buy things that don't seem to be practical, but they buy them because they want them.
Luxury cars for example.... doesn't make cost effective sense but if you want to spend your money on one, be my guest. The only PM watch on my radar is a DD40, but that is not close at all on my list for many years. |

What`s the point of any expensive luxury watch? Any Casio does the job much cheaper and more precise....
People here put more money into watches than this because they (we) love watches. Gold watches are not for everyone and that`s fine. They are awesome!

I won't hate on gold subs or watches. I will say a ss sub black is the ultimate sub. It's what bond wore.

I like the weight of the gold, the steel and two tone models although fairly heavy just don't compare to the all gold.

-The Submariner design is iconic......and, it's dimensions and architecture suit the image and nature of a solid yellow gold watch perfectly.........unlike some of the more feminine/fragile/generic looking solid gold watches sold by other manufacturer's. -The blue dial/bezel and solid yellow gold are a spectacular visual combination that is not used in any other Rolex (I may be wrong here, but can't remember 100%). This watch is absolutely stunning in your hand, and on your wrist. It is truly jaw dropping. The weight is also nicer than SS. -It is a significant store of value outside of the banking system. -Definitely not everyone "can".......or even "will"......buy one, even if they could. These are actually rare IMHO. My AD sells the SS subs at a ratio of 20-1 over YG. In my neck of the woods everyone has a SS Sub or a Daytona. I am not follower. |

Yellow gold sub is pure class. If you don't like it then don't get it and none of us will care either way.

I'm not a huge fun of Rolex until December 2016!
And then I start to be with a Sub.... The Sub is a watch who you don't like until you have it on your wrist... Then is hard to let it go!!! Believe me! I have many high-end watch who are maybe more expensive, maybe more beautifull but Sub have something I can't tell in the words... Just try it and after that you will know.. |

I don't know if I would ever buy one as i wouldn't likely wear it very often. I'm very hard on watches. I love the blue dial and bezel though.

A yellow gold Sub is a fine choice! Black dial for a less casual look and blue for walking the streets of Old San Juan or St. Tropez. The smurf does nothing for me. I would take a new WG DD 40 with blue dial over a smurf any day of the week. I tried one on recently and it was simply stunning.

It's just cool! The ultimate juxtoposition of iconic dive watch and luxury metal.
Personally the YG Sub is a close second for me as I would pick the YG GMT with green dial but they both have the same "go to hell feel"! |

I love the Gold submariner, and I recognize the class that it exudes, however, as a master diver myself, I would prefer a stainless steel dive watch mainly for safety reasons. I know by experience that numerous attacks from marine predators, sharks, barracudas, and moray eels are curiously attracted to shiny objects; chains, watches the like. You don';t want that!!

16618, My grail watch, IMHO arguably the best looking watch in the line. Puts a smile on my face every time I put it on.

I'll answer this one in three parts and also ask one question towards the end.

Yes. Quote:
For example...Is this how it goes? "A gold Sub at a cafe is my least favourite Rolex but when that Sub's being used for diving then the Daytona's my least favourite." P.S. To help you understand. It goes like this: Sub = Awesome Gold = Awesome ∴ Gold Sub = Awesome ²
