36mm too small for 7.25” wrist?

Yes. I just went through this exercise. I have a 7 inch wrist and have been curious about the latest DJ36. I have a DJ41 and like the size but I wanted to try a 36mm just to see what the difference is. I've seen a lot of photos here where the 36 looks great on the wrist. I went to an AD a couple of days ago and tried the DJ36 and it looked tiny on my wrist. I even asked the AD if he mistakenly had given me a 34mm.

Given wrist shots make watches look bigger than in reality, by today’s standards, that looks way to small on you. At least for my taste.

It's a matter of getting our eyes adapted. Adaptation takes some time when jumping form one watch size to the other. This explains why the 36 looked to you so tiny. Same will happen for someone wearing and used to a 36 and then try a 41 or 42, he'll feel the watch is out of place.
Besides being a matter of tastes, I agree with you that a 7"+ wrist can showcase a 41mm much better. The new DJ 41 case is so slim and reduced it almost looks like a 36.
On my 7.5 wrist I now can't accept anything less that 41, 43 being the one for me.

The only 36mm that wears slightly bigger is the turnograph. On a big guy a 36mm looks like a kids watch, reason i sold both mine and upped to only 40mm and up watches

That is correct IMHO regarding the TOG.......

Many times this can be a time issue. I wasn't able to love my 39 steinhart after wearing 40's and 42's even a 44 deep blue etc... It seemed wrong. But then I started wearing a vintage manual at 34. Moving back to the 39 I've found it became perfectly balanced. I wear the 42 version of the same watch and it's silly. I guess just like fashion changes perception watch size/proportion perception can change. Now I'm loving anything below 36-29 on a raf. Understated and purposeful

Wear whatever size watch you like. I've got an 8 inch wrist and as I write this I'm wearing a 34mm 6694. Yeah it looks small but I like the watch. Enjoy your 36mm.

I have a Modern turno graph and a new Datejust 36. I find the ToG wears smaller because of the smaller dial.

I appreciate that. I actually had a 41. I thought it wore larger than it did because of the dial area. Never felt comfortable with that aspect of the watch.

A couple of thoughts. Majority of people wearing 41’s on this and other forums, the lugs are either at or nearly over the edge of the wrist. Too big for a watch like the dj in my mind.

As shown in the picture, there is actually an extra link on the bracelet And it is wearing a tad too loose, hence more bracelet showing. Which makes the watch head look smaller.

Finally. Something to be said for the classics as opposed to trends. A 36mm DJ is an iconic watch. Has not changed in 70 years for all practical purposes. There is much to be said for owning the original.

I have a DD 36. My wrist is 7.5. I think 36 is perfect for a DD or DJ. That being said, most other watches that size look small.

Case in point. In my mind 41 was too big for the kind of watch a DJ I supposed to be. It made it more on the sporty side. Definitely stood out more on the wrist.


As opposed to 36. Which to my mind blends into the wrist



Let’s also remember that this DJ wears thick due to the case and dome bezel. Giving it more heft on the wrist.

Have you ever walked onto a plane while traveling, walking through first class or business class, looking at people's wrists to see if they have anything nice on? And you see a fat guy with a tiny TT Datejust that just accentuates how fat he is? I just can't unsee it whenever I see a 36mm DJ. Sorry, but it's much too small for any above average wrist. The wrists shots posted in this thread just confirms that. It doesn't look right.

For men, I suspect that's because everything else is unavailable. The 36mm is pretty much the only thing you'll still find in display cases.

For women, I think the 36mm is perfect. My wife tried one on when we went to an AD, and it looked amazing on her. I may have to get her one.

Sorry, but this needs to be said. The reverse is also true. 40, 41 and 42mm watches look just as ridiculous on guys with a 6.5” wrist. It accentuates how skinny their arms are. The posts on TRF confirm this on a daily basis.

Don’t want to start a war, just trying to balance things out a bit.

I have a 7-inch wrist and I've tried on a 36mm and 40mm Day-Date. For a watch like a DJ or DD, 36mm looks fine, but then again, so does the 40mm. If you're going for a more "classic" appearance, go with the 36mm. If you want a more "modern" size, go with the 40mm. If it were me, I'd probably go with the 36mm like the OP. That said, to each his (or her) own!

Your wife is like mine. Doesn’t set the date or time. It’s just jewelry. I think your wife might have just lost her DJ. lol. My wife’s wrist are so small I tried to put hers on but she has too many links taken out so it only goes to my knuckles. Thinking about popping those links back in and joint the DJ31 club. Haha. On a serious note when I was in Singapore I saw many old gentlemen wearing the 31 inch DJ. I found it quite bazar but it seemed normal there as I saw at least 10 older gentleman wearing them. My wife too thought it look odd. Reminded me of the CRM video about the old gangster wearing the 31 like it was all good. Lol
