I'm reconsidering my negative stance on the SD43. I've always eschewed the new design for the original SD4K. Tradition, history, etc. But I've made this determination without ever seeing the SD43 in person, which is kind of naive on my part.
My grail watch (attained last year) is the GMT Master II BLRO. Lately my fears of a 40mm watch being too small for my 7 3/4" wrist is beginning to recur. I hesitated to buy the GMT because of this, dithering for 30+ years before saying "what the heck." I was so enamored with the BLRO after coveting it from afar for so long that I talked myself into believing the size was just fine. It's almost fine, mostly fine, but not ideal. Since the SD4K uses an almost identical case it's going to have the same overall size issues for me. Hence my rethinking of my stance on the SD43. I guess my next step is to try on a SD43. Easier said than done these days.

Pre Ceramic 16600 for me, rough and ready watch, perfect proportions. There’s a good reason it lasted so long

Agreed, I look at my 16600 every day and it's just like the first time I took it out of the box. It's understated, classic, and the proportions are perfect.

I like the entire SD range. I've got a SDc4K, and may add the new style Deep Blue in the future.

16600 for me... I don’t care for the fully indexed bezel on the later iterations, probably due to the fact that I’m accustomed to the bezel on my 16610.

fully indexed bezel is quite intriguing but I can see the attraction towards the traditional steel bezel... |

I understand the fully indexed bezel is an ISO requirement now for saturation dive watches; it's not just a design decision. I've seen this on a web site but have been unable to find more references. Anyone?

Honestly, Rolex hit the SD43 out of the park with its proportions. I have never tried on an SD4K but I feel 39mm (that's what people here have said is the actual size) and 15mm thickness would feel incredibly top heavy.
That being said, I do not like the cyclops on a Rolex diver. |

like a 39 mm it actually looks and wears larger than a sub c cause I have both ... Now the SD43 is still a phenomenon cause I have yet to see or try one on in the flesh ... |

I personally love the SD43. The 43mm isn’t too big and hugs your wrist nicely. I have a 7.15-7.25inch wrist and i love the way it sits. It’s bigger than a regular sub in a good way. It’s the sub for those wanting a sub without blending in the crowd of subs in my opinion. I also prefer a little heft to a watch, the sub/gmt is too light for me, and I’m not a big guy.
I personally also love the cyclops. It’s definitely a Rolex trademark and I never understood why people hated it so much, I think the date without the cyclops looks weird. I love the red lettering looking back at me each time I check my wrist (just to check out the watch, not necessarily the time). I really hope they discontinue the red lettering soon to make it even more special. The gas release valve makes it known it’s a sea dweller right off the bat. Lastly, I love the tick marks which go all the way around the bezel. My $.2 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

In my eyes...they are all super cool. I have had all of them over the years. As much as I dig the 5 digit classics, the moderns surpasses them.
I believe the SD is the ultimate in Rolex SS sports models, and think the 43 is the best of the SD’s.

The SD4K for me is the best of both world. I also like the SD43, but find it a little big.
