Regardless of price, watch as itself, I enjoy the Daytona more. If you go the Royal Oak, the original time(date) only watch is the way to go.

I thought I should update this post since (after a long wait) I was finally able to pick up my Daytona!

I do have to say it is gorgeous, and comfortable. I just wish it did not have screw down pushers. I’m one of the minority’s that actually uses the chrono feature.

Does anyone know how water Resistant this watch is if one were to just leave the pushers open

Any-who, here are some pics of my new acquisition. I have had it for a while now, and to be honest, the Idea of keeping it over the AP is growing on me. Mainly due to its utility. I don’t feel like I have to look out for bumps, and scrapes as much as the AP.

I’m on the same page, and that’s why I’m dragging my feet switching to AP.

Beautiful watch! Congratulations!
And the pushers staying open isn’t an issue unless you were to use them underwater....from what I’ve read.

Yeah, I think it can go underwater without issue, as long as the pushers aren’t engaged. Personally, if I’m going in/near water, I just make sure they’re screwed down.

neither.

WG OF daytona
Then the blue AP ROC

If i was in the AP price range as a consideration, the OF daytona is a better comp. Plus its my second favorite daytona.

Waiting on a blue dial white subdial ROC from an AD to be delivered later this mo th or sometime in September and really looking forward to it! Have been on a few ADs list for a white Daytona C since launch with no real timeframe on delivery yet despite spending well over 100k from one dealer in the last year and 60 at another and about 40 at yet another. Not paying gray. And I’m sure the ROC will tide me over just fine. Anywho, congrats OP! Looks super sharp! Maybe one day you’ll also pick up the AP?

The Daytona at retail is a no brainer. If you still lust after the ap sell the Daytona and you will be closer to the price of the AP with that profit.

Thanks for the info. I’m not planning on swimming with it, I just don’t want to incidentally damage it if it gets wet with the pushers unscrewed.

Sorry but that AP looks like something you would see Buck Rogers wearing back in the 70's. Very prone to aging due to its very specific design. It's a fad watch. Reminds me of the Movados back in the 90's. Everyone paid big money for a Movado and now you can't give them away. I am sure it is very nice from a fit and finish standpoint but it will date itself very fast. Rolex is very timeless.

I love the way the AP looks, hate the way it feels on your wrist. With that said, I would take Daytona any day of the week

I once heard the expression... Trendy today tacky tomorrow.

IMO the AP is a very well thought out, and handsome watch; however, you have a strong point. It is a very stylistic watch that could be prone to show its age more rapidly than the Daytona.

at what point is it not trendy? when can it be classic? I think 1970's to today qualifies.

No different than a sub. At some point the style is just classic because its been so successful for decades. The sub looks very 1950's. it wasn't some super futuristic looking watch then so is that mean it is showing its age?

Hey Tyler.

I think the RO is a classic. Is it as classical as the submariner? Not likely. IMO it is not as appealing to most people as the Sub. I personally found the ROs a bit polarizing at first, until trying a friends in person.

Overall, the ROC has had many ups, and downs in popularity. Now it is on an uptick just like Rolex. Just in my personal opinion the ROC has more eccentricities that make it an acquired taste.

Things that made me want the RO? It’s Attention to detail, lack of screw down pushers legibility, and THAT bracelet!

Things that turn me off about the ROc? I still find the case, and bezel a bit polarizing. Some days I love it, some days I don’t. Subjective I know; What’s more, the bezel worries me. This is what I meant by showing age.
I don’t baby my watches, and Im good at knocking the face on random obstacles, so the ceramic bezel of the Rolex is very appealing.
Lastly, the service cost of AP was a big detractor. Considering I would probably need a new bezel every time it was sent in. The bracelet is one thing, but I don’t like to look at scratches every time I check time.

Don’t get me wrong, I could still give into my impulse to try one of these out, but the fact that the watch seems like a potential scratch magnet would probably drive my OCD crazy. Lol.

I owned the ROO titanium for a short time, and even managed to scratch it up, even though I was trying to be cautious of the bezel.
The fit, and fact that I felt like I was spending more time shielding the watch then actually wearing it led me to passing it on.

To wrap it up, I guess I would say the ROC has a lot of caveats that are preventing me from jumping in.

They appear to have been styled in the 70's and not in a good way. I agree with you 100%.

No, the Genta octagons of both AP and PP are now so well baked into the consciousness of WIS as to be the new classics or alt classics, and they get more credit with me than having basic round styles that everyone else has.
