This sounds a bit elitist and kind of shallow but I feel strongly about it.

I cannot believe that in today's age, there are children in the developed world who cannot read or write.

I am not talking about those with learning disorders, just general children. We have many children at work (ages 14-16) on work experience before the summer break and I can guarantee that there will be at least one per annum that cannot read properly.

Fair anough, there will always be issues with spelling and slipped apostrophes etc but to not even be able to read through laziness is a terrible shame, in fact it is a disgrace!

I blame the parents (copyright Daily Mail reader)!

Next time somebody asks you to "think outside the box" just reply "what box?"

Watch the panic appear on their face as they try to justify their statement in a rational manner.

For another sucker punch to the gut, you could always follow up with;

"Oh, you mean that box? The one which contains the theory of management speak concealing any intellectual failings, replacing any thoughts of substance with a vacuous attempt at appearing dynamic?"

A potential client the other day told me he wanted Blue Sky thinking, I replied that the outlook was cloudy at best.

He laughed, we got the job!

It would be interesting to see how well the Brits, Americans, Canadians or Aussies would do on a forum presented in a foreign language.

Well James,

It's common knowledge that the Scottish are the only race that pronounce their words correctly. For example oven is o v e n not u v e n and iron is i r o n not i o n.

I have English friends who have lived in here in Australia for 30 years and still can't pronounce any words that begin with 'th'. They always seen to come out as 'f'.

TG thuck is not a word.

I hate when people say "Guesstimate," and when they pronounce "ask" as "ax." Come on people!
I am sure that I have more, but it has been a long day and I'll think of more tomorrow

I'm so sick of "...at the end of the day..." I've heard that used several times in one conversation (usually in a business context, e.g. "After all of the cuts we're making, at the end of the day, we will still go out of business..." or whatever it is).

I missed a few posts.

Did anyone mention:

"I can't tell you why, but..." (I wouldn't mind if you didn't! : )

"Let me just say..." (What can I do to stop you? : )

"It just kills me when..." (How is it that you're still talking, then? : )

"I don't know why, but..." (You THINK I know? : )

"If you ask me..." (If I REALLY cared to, I would!)

"Not that its any of my business... (YOU'RE RIGHT!!! : )

"...when hell freezes over." (THIS actually occurred on 1/20/09. NO SMILEY)

You're right about that last one, Taffi.

When people say, "Have a good day," I tell 'em, "Don't you tell ME what to do!"

One ought to say, "Have a good day, if you want to."

I'm fond of this one and have used it a few times, being the closet histrionic that I am. I believe it was stolen from Bette Midler:

Enough about me. What do YOU think of me?
