I was 26. When I was visiting Hong Kong, I came across a pawn shop which had hundreds of pre-owned SS Rolexes on display. I chose two. One was a SS Precision with date and one without. I paid $150 and $100 respectively. For some reason, the latter was wee bit bigger than former, but it was NOT the mid-size model. I kept the pair for 23 years before trading both in for a TT Datejust with a blue dial.

Nice story!!

1st rolex

I was nineteen i purchased a Steel Submariner off a friend who used to
work at Rolex , London.

He also mdoified it for mee and put a blue bezel/ face (from the gold one)
Rolex should offer this on the all steel sub as it did look great.

it cost me £725 , the list price at athe time was £1019

It was subsequently stolen from a chap who used to service it for me around 3 years ago, keep an eye out if you can as this was a one off and would'nt mind it back.

I was around 25 (43 now). It was a hand-me-down oysterquartz from my father, I still have it.

I was and am 24. It was a gift from my wife's father. He almost forced me to buy some watch. My wife's parents have themselves pretty fancy Rolex watches.

I went to Hongkong to buy it. I honestly had no ideas about watches and Rolex. It was quite a headache to find some watch I like. I was interested in an Omega, checked on a couple of other brands. All were pretty ugly things. Finally I was satisfied with an Air King. Very classic and simple. Price was 2500 EUR. Is that too expensive? I read that some people bought it for a few hundred USD.

After the purchase I am getting more and more interested in watches. I am also happy I decided to go for a Rolex. Good forum guys. See you later.

The first rolex i bought was a new datejust at the age of 33.

But it wasn't for me. It was a birthday gift for my wife.

This very quickly followed 2 months later with a GMT-II 16750 for myself.

Welcome, 2500 Euros is a reasonable price. A few hundred USD for an Air King would only get you a fake, as they just don't exist at that price.

I was 22 when I bought my first Rolex at the PX in Saigon, serving with the USAF (1968). It was an Oyster Perpetual Date (34 mm). Silver dial, smooth bezel, oyster bracelet. I wore it until 1984 when I traded it for a Datejust. Wish I still had them both... I have been on the hunt for that exact watch (a newer version of it) for some time and recently saw one in a local AD...hope to have one soon.

Here's one for you, Ronnie. My 1940ish Rolex British military backup pocket watch. This one might have landed on D-day, who knows?

My First Rolex

I was 9 years old. Living in Japan with my parents. Dad was in the Navy stationed at Atsugi air base. The Navy Exchange had stag nights only allowing in males. My Dad bought me an all stainless no date medium size for $ 69.00. This was in 1968, Yen conversion was 360 Yen to the dollar. Submariners were $ 198.00. I will never forget looking in the display case that was jam packed full of Rolex’s! Everything stationed there wore a Rolex !

53, when I was finally financially secure enough to purchase a new BLNR without it being an over expenditure.

On the other hand, I did buy my wife her DJ for our 20th wedding anniversary. At that point in time I was 47.

We do have to keep the Misses happy you know.
