Concerning the ad video, I wonder if it's natural or imaginable in some business culture for someone to give a colleague (who may also be a love interest) a platinum Patek as a surprise gift during a business party of some sort.

when I was at the event we had the chance to talk to thierry a bit.
Regarding the case size he said that the movement (big date) could only fit in a case size of 43mm and up and that he decided on 45mm after testing 43/44/45 I was quite taken aback when the guy at the try on table told us it was 45mm (as I have a wrist size of about 16,5 cm). But after trying it on I‘d say what Ichiran said before. Since its L2L is only slightly bigger than the case, it‘s quite wearable even on a smaller wrist. One would need to get used to that wide face though.. Regarding the couple in the video, he mentioned that they actually became a couple after the shoot. Funny tidibit |

The lady who gave him the watch is his Aunt.

Thank you for posting the pictures. I usually dislike 2-toned watches, but I have to admit this is staying to grow on me. Looks super nice on the wrist.

Let’s be honest. They enlarged the size for the man of advanced age to be able to see the watch without aid. Those are who buy Patek sports watches en masse.
With more marketing, our perception will change. Once Tom Brady and Leo are seen with this on, it will garner high demand. |

You can't just make a square Nautilus without provoking some cognitive dissonance.
Most of us have owned or just stared at photos of a Nautilus for so long now that when we perceive the Cubitus it just looks wrong. My wife recently started wearing glasses and this is the same effect! Guess we'll all get used to it. |

https://monochrome-watches.com/patek...w-specs-price/ It is a 2-part construction similar to the original 3700, and the latest 5811, with hinge at the side. I understand why square watches are not for everyone. I don't have one now but perception of watches could change over time. |

Pics can be misleading but in this photo from the German forum the 5821 seems to wear a lot larger than 5711.

Re pricing of Cubitus, I would like to offer my perspective.
The cheapest men's Nautilus with bracelet in the collection is the 5712/1A at S$75,100. Obviously the 5712 has moonphase and power reserve and it is the more complicated watch. The 5821/1A is priced at S$59,700 and it will be the cheapest Nautilus by some 20% margin if it is listed as part of the Nautilus collection. The 5711 has been discontinued for more than 3 years and it will not be fair to compare apple-to-apple due to annual adjustments. The price of the 5726/1A has increased by 25% over the same time period. For precious metal Nautilus, my wife 7118 and my 5740 have both increased by 21-25% over the same time period. For 5822P, the last platinum Nautilus (5711/1P) was released in 2016 (8 years ago) and the retail price was S$149,300. The 5711/1P is a limited edition and has a bracelet but the 5822P has grand date, day and moonphase. For annual adjustments, the price of the 5712/1A has increased approximately 80+% from 2016 to 2024. Comparing the price of the 5822P (S$128,000) to 8-year-old 5711/1P (S$149,300) and 2024 5811/1G (S$104,600), does that still sound exorbitant to you? |

I would add one point and one question: The grand complication and complications I own have fallen in price (not that I would ever sell them) the 5172G and the 5230G. The Nautilus and Aquanauts have indeed been marked up on Watchcharts - for what that’s worth. Are we supposed to consider the exquisite 5822P - a watch with a new complex mechanism cased in platinum, a superb horological creation with a baguette diamond, as ‘sports’ watch? It seems a stretch to me! |

If we consider a 5711/1P a sport watch, then Cubitus is 1 too given the shared DNA. That composite strap is not leather btw but I don't know what it is.

https://www.chrono24.co.uk/patekphil...-57111p001.htm I would definitely remove it before playing any energetic sport. And I wouldn’t trust it to my sports locker either. IMO a sport’s watch is tough enough and not so expensive that one can bash it about and not worry about dents and dings - so stainless steel or titanium and not platinum with a diamond baguette on the case. |

This is exactly why my favorite Patek is the 5167/1A. And the Cubitus will be Unavailable even before it is gifted to Brady and DiCaprio. |

It's not exactly a 43mm round watch though. The L2L is only 44.9mm which is smaller than most conventional watches with lugs. The issue is the width which people are not used to after the image of Nautilus deeply implanted in people's consciousness for more than 40 years.
