Can some of the ALS experts please give me their insights on the Zeitwerk vs the Dato up/down? Both are VERY appealing to me.

Mike I'll be candid--they are too small for your wrist IMHO.

Great watch of course...too small for Mike, yes.

Go try one on and let us know.

It’s 42mm with a slimish bezel, so it’ll wear more like a 43mm – you’ll be fine, Mike.

It wears more like a 39mm (it's actually 41mm not 42mm) IMHO and Mikes wrist is HUGE.

Now if you want something to wear under a shirt sleeve with a suit--great. Other than that, I standby my thoughts.

Of course all that matters is what Mike thinks. Try it on.

Obviously referring to the Zeitwerk, PJ? What are your thoughts on the 2 if you don't mind?

Paul, the Dato is 41, the Zeitwerk is 42. If it wears like a 39, it's a no go, if it wears like a 43, I'd be good.

My worst is 7 5/8", good sized, ,but not huge. It's my arms that throw everything off and make the watches look smaller than they are.

After wearing mostly RM, the dato feels a bit smaller, but is very elegant.

No complaints here.

I tried the zietwork on in SF last month, and it did feel larger than the dato.

My goodness, I can't believe that either the Dato or the Zeitwerk are too small?
I guess compared to some RM's or Panerai's they're smaller, but I've never heard the complaint that a Zeitwerk is too small, usually it's its size and heft that is questioned.

I said it because that is my opinion. Also like I said, one should try it on to see how THEY feel. No right or wrong.

I appreciate both watches and if I wore dressier watches I'd have one. Amazing finish and movements.

When I tried it on in Geneva it was too small for my tastes.

It’s actually 41.9mm (as per ALS’ website info) – and I think it wears its size or a fraction bigger due to the slightly narrow bezel.

Yes – haven’t looked at the Dato, since it doesn’t really appeal to me.

That said, I’m 8¼” (probably more broad than round), and I’d be fine with it (with a suitable length strap) – so I’d be surprised if you found it any different on your smaller wrist.
You might want to wear a long sleeve shirt, which you can unbutton and pull up, to see if your bare forearm affects how the watch looks – it shouldn’t, or rather, you shouldn’t let it, since it’s not a pre-requisite to have a big watch just because you’re bulkier than the average guy.

As Paul said, the only real way of knowing for sure, is to try it on yourself and decide based on that, rather than what the numerical values might suggest.

Correct, I was referring to Dato size not Zeitwerk.

I will say Zeitwerk wears larger, but has that 'hockey puck' effect to it on the wrist. Super cool and unique watch though.

I'll eventually have to get them on my wrist... The watch market is pretty limited in my part of the world. So, it may be a while before I come across one.

That Zeitwerk is so nice, as is the Dato!

If you can put in the effort, travel the 90 miles or so to Royal De Versailles in Toronto.
Just spoke with Valeria, and she has confirmed they are an ALS AD, and have both the RG and WG Zeitwerks in stock.
